Soldiers of Napoleon Austrians vs French in 10mm.

Phil and I met up for a game of Soldiers of Napoleon, all in glorious Pendraken 10mm. I was using my Austrians, Phil has bought a clubmates 10mm French, which are beautiful, and unbeaten. I have rebased my Austrian infantry and guns, but realised that I REALLY need to do my cavalry too! Deployments - I put two brigades of infantry out left and right, massing my guns in the middle. I screened with my light cavalry brigade, which were eyeing up Phil's right-hand infantry which was approaching in assault columns. The French large battery would spend its time battering my artillery so Scarlet was picking up points for these. It was a good idea, two hussars and cheveleux le guere supported by guns looking at targets. Jellybeans are hit markers btw. The hussars assualt took the guns, but the cheveleux le guere bounced off the infantry next door! Phil's reserve Hussar brigade arrived turn one, and proceeded to rip my hussars apart! There used to be a unit here!  Then his artille...

Warband - Taurians vs Hugh Elves - Is the grass greener?

Ky Gox, the Minotaur Lord, reclined against an ancient oak, his ax resting on the ground next to him. A pair of half moon spectacles perched on his snout, the first draft of one of the Centaur knight novel on his lap. One of teh Minotaur Shmen was looking across the valley at the Elven lands, "You know the grass is definitely greener over there," the mage uttered, "but ity is heacvily guarded by elves". "Shall we try?" The Lord enquired putting the manuscript down and folding his specatcles, hefting his ax, "I could do with the exercise!" Phillip and I met up a couple of weeks ago for another game of Warband . Phillip was using the Hugh Elves, d6+2 cinc, d6+2 mage, 2 powerful archers, 3 shieldwall with resolute spears, 2 powerful knights and a unicorn. A solid, powerful list that can dseal damage and take it. I brought out my Taurians , one of my favourite lists, but not been out in yeras. a d6 general, a d6 mage, 3 minotaurs (one with a hero) ...

10mm Battle of Kissingen - Prussia vs Bavaria using Black Powder

Nick came over to Leighton Buzzard for a C19th game. I was wondering what to do, and thought are there any Prussian vs Bavarian fights? I did a bit of research, and came across The Battle of Kissingen 10th July 1866 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kissingen I defaulted to Black Powder, using my Volley and Bayonet basing, but using the Wyre Forest Gamers scenario, orbat, timings and map (they always make good games), modified to Black Powder. I usually use my figures in regimental scale, but this is a divisional scale, and so each stand equates to a battalion today. Victory is simple, if Prussian leaves the table to the East, it's a major victory. If they can take all the on-table villages, a minor one. If the Bavarian have no Prussian to the East of the river, a Major win. https://www.wfgamers.org.uk/war-of-1866-mbue/battle-of-kissingen My take on the table. East is up. I left my bridges at home, but the right hand brigdes (small road to the...

Warband: Hugh Elves vs Gobbos.

Phil and I met up for a game of Warband at Leighton Buzzard Wargames club. I brought the armies, threw a few pieces of terrain on the table and we had a lot have a lot of fun. Hugh Elves +2 General (resolute & shieldwall) +2 Mage 2 x Knights  (fierce) 3 x Warriors (Resolute, shield wall) 2 x archers (formed, powerful) 1 x unicorns Gobbos +2 General (fierce) +1 Mage 4 x Warriors (fierce) 2 x Archers 2 x Wolf Riders (one with hero) 1 x Trolls Turn 1: So, getting generals to move, even when boosted, on a +4, typical! Goblins advanace, ELves sit back and wait. Skeleton stand used as measuring device! Elven cavalry and unicorns come forwards, foot lags behind, while Elven archers move up to fire. Elven CinC fails to activate (it's a running theme with ELven generals). Magic from the Shamen boosts the Wolf Riders who charge in on the Evelen Knights, while the unicorns pile into the Goblin Shamen, curtailing his casting abilities! Two Goblin warrior units are in prime posi...

Blitskreig Commander IV: Somewhere in the Balkens, 1940.

Mark and I met up for a game of BKCIV, and to allow Mark to use his Early War BEF forces  We went for an Encounter game.   I put out myEarly  War German armour (minus three Pz38(t) that I left at home), supplimented by some of my DAK to llow a decent amount of points, and drew a rough line halfway, which landed us with a 'What if' game somewhere in The Balkans in 1940. So, ignore the later Panzer IIIS in desert cammo, they are really earlier ones, honest, and the obvious DAK infantry and trucks, just imagine they had been issued tropical kit early,  maybe!  Straight away, the difference in command levels shows. The British are mostly 7s with a CO of 8, the Germans are 10s and 9s. That is a huge difference. I won the initiative, and gave Mark the first turn, and all of his units failed to appear! Much hilarity and a little swearing happened instead.  My CinC ooccupies the crops over the halfway line, the infantry commamd moves through the left hand cen...
