Scrapjacks - trial game at Graham's

Graham kindly invited me roud for another game. This time we were trialing the pre-release version of ' Scrapjack s' by Stalker 7. This is a cooperative (or even solo) Sci-Fifsalvage game; where your team of four has to explore and recover items from desolate areas of space. Assume broken spaceships, abandoned stations, but are they actually abandoned? As Graham and I were trialing there were no official floorplans or models, yet. So, an ad-hoc selection of miniatures from Graham's amazing collection (more retro spacesuits/diving suits than hi-tech gear here) and his great portable terrain system. Our team of four enter the area. Each team is made up of different characters, and I'm sure as the rules are finalised, more will become apparent, but ours had a hacker, a fighter, a medic and a fixer types, giving a useful spread of skills across three different stat types. Aim is to sweep each room for goodies and salvage, complete missions for rewards, and survive. That las...

Burrow and Badgers - Freeferrerts Vs Rufus's gang.

"What was it we heard them say: 'Looks like a nice village, be a shame of anything happens to it!'" Smalls the Stoat muttered under his breath, "not the sort of thing you say when visiting a place." Matilda the ferret shook her head, "Why are we here Sir Dereck?" The aged stoat veteran hefted his axe and looked at the gang of stoats, weasels and a ferret as they tooled up, "Someone told us Rufus the hound, and his gang, were in the neighbourhood we've been hired to deal with them, and oh boy, did they need dealing with, and we are being paid extra to cut their supply lines." "You mean help ourselves to their kit!" Laughed the mage Teddy the Stoat, his sword sniggered nastily too. "Right, everyone ready?" "Matilda the Ferret, Teddy the mage, Eddy, Neddy, Smalls, Sir Dereck, Ron the Weasel, Gilly Weasel, Fred Weasel, and Harry." "Yeah, we know who we are!" Teddy groaned. Neddy looked out fr...

Three games of Song of Blades and Heroes at Graham's

"Right lads, the aim is simple; we sneak ups on 'em, we jumps them, we wins!" My orc boss giving his lads a pep-talk before game 1. Graham/Sunjester invited me round for a game (or three) of 'Song of Blades and Heroes' and presented with multiple warbands to try, I plumped for his beautiful Ral Paths orcs, while he chose his gnolls. Mine were better fighters, his were more motivated. This was an interesting mechanism, which would add definite flavour to the groups of warriors. Aim for game one, was simple, I had 8 orcs in some kind of ambush, could I get him, before he got me? The gnoll warband brings an ogre as muscle! A couple of turns later, my lads obviously unable to hide in bushes without lots of "Shhh, be quiet!" "No you be quiet!" "Stop giggling, they'll hear us!" The Gnoll warriors and ogre charge in. However, one of my savage orcs lands a 'gruesome' injury on the ogre before the behemoth can get a charge in, and ...

Test of Honour - Battle of the Mill Temple

Well, it's been all a minute!  Neil suggested a game of Test of Honour, which neither of us have played since Neil absolutely trounced me in my first attempt at playing... My list was almost the same, The boss was an Onna Bugeisha as my armoured samurai hero , a devoted samurai follower and a battleworn samurai as retainers, bows, arquibusiers, spears. This time I dropped the second spears and took a veteran Ashugari sergeant and a single spearman to get to exactly 24 points.  My mob assembled. Neil putting his boys through their paces.  I mean, it's great looking terrain Neil owns. Really looks atmospheric.  Oh yeah, he split his forces in two, either side of the stream, so I matched him as much as possible. His bows and spears cone down Neil's left, his hero clashes with mine. My retainer follows up as Neil's crosses the bridge. My ashugaru with Tepu unleash a volley at the Samurai crossing the bridge. And their shots strike true!  Neil's first gero is ...
