Mortem et Gloriam - Italian Wars. Tudors vs Venitians

Neil had booked to play Paul, but Paul was unable to play due to work, so I stepped in with Henry VIII and his army at the last second. The thing is with Neil's army, it's georgous! It's also really difficult to beat (when you use Tudors). Knowing that it brought a pile of knight, my best option was to go dense and try and get as much terrain on table as possible to break them up. Pity my army is not really built for rough terrain fighting, with only two units of loose foot (to be honest, my army isn't built for much apart from Henry's personnal glory!). Those sneaky enitians invaded, and outscouted the glorious Henry by 20% (extra yellow card)! I thought a twon and a boundried field might help, it certainly split the forces on all sides, but with 4 units of crossbows the Venitians didn't mind! My Welsh and retinue archers hold the left, where we are both being cagey with our cavalry. My men-at-arms, pikes and unit of bills are to the left of the field, while o...

Two Mortiem et Gloriam games at Battlefield Hobbies

With the current lockdown easing, six of us gathered for safe and socially distanced gaming at Battlefield Hobbies in Daventry . Game 1: Senguko Samurai vs Western Han I took along my Senguko Samurai for the morning game vs Steve borrowing Hammy's Western Han, which was a teaching game, and in the afternoon, my never victorious Tudors faced off against Lee's nearly finished new 10mm Spanish that I had been painting for him. Samurai deploy facing Western Han, as this is Steve's first game in a long while, his cards are on display and I was talking him through the system, so any rules, cards, lists etc in the background are Steve getting used to the game. Terrain was in my favour, and I plumped for mountains, I even got both villages on the table. For the Samurai, my allies holding the gap between two villages on the right, and archers in the castle village, cavalry out left and the bulk of my foot in the middle. Steve put artillery and his mixed bill/crossbow units in cen...

Mortiem et Gloriam - 10mm Tudor English vs 15mm Venitians.

Venitians - blinding! Neil invited me round for a fight, in his open barn, we set up for an Italian Wars bash. Neil was using his freshly painted and very beautiful Venitians for the first time (usually the kiss of death for any army, but, he's not met my army). One brilliant touch Neil has done is to put 6 staggered pikes on each base, rather than the usual 4, which makes teh units look really dense. Love it. My Tudors. Played 12, won 1... My least successful army ever! Why keep using it? Because it's cool, it looks good and it's like Halflings in Blood Bowl, if you ever do well, it feels like a massive win! Deployment, and outscouted by a massive 10%, not too bad young Henry! I anchored right on my artillerey, sending my Welsh into the town to threaten the camp, while my main battle line squared off with Neil's seemingly much longer force (two units of light horse and two units of crossbows betwixt the Keils will do that though). Trying out movement trays for the f...
