Warhammer Old World: High Elves Vs Border Princes

Well, you say High Elves, I say Melniboneans. You know, the type of chaos who give Dark Elves a bad name. Mort and I met up for a game of Warhammer: Old World at the Leighton Buzzard club, and after the humiliation of Big Jason, it was time for Mort's Empire (this time being Border Princes variant) to meet the White Wolf and Stormbringer The terrain, we went for two pieces each, and then scattered 2d6 inches, which put a large wood in my front line, and two hills. A third hill wandered off table to find somewhere safe to stay. This was neither of our deployments by the way! Deployment was this: Bolt thrower and archers out left, with the mage between them and the sword masters, swordmasters with Elric between the left hand hill and the woods, silver helms with teh army standard bearer Elwing out right beyond the wood. I then brought the shadow warriors and the Elyrian reavers on as scouts around the right. My aim - ex the Imperial light horse that did a number the gobbos last time...

Warhammer Old World - Melniboneans (High Elves) vs Khemri

Mark and I met up for a 1600 point game of Warhammer:Old World. I had two choices to face his Khemri (undead Egyptians), High Eles/Melniboneans from the 80s, or Gobbos. Knowing the Combined Forces of Goblotpia would be utterly hopeless, I took my Hugh Elves (like High Elves, but posher). A unit of archers, repeater bolt thrower, Swordmasters, Silver Helm heavy cavalry, Elyrian Reaver medium cavalry and a unit of Shadow Warrior foot scouts. Elric (tooled up fighter, but he would be), Elwing (mounted hero with army standard and banner of battles) and a mage make up my characters. Mark had hordes of the Egyptian dead! A prince, two priests, the Arc, two units of chariots, a scorpion, a giant, archers, Tomb Guard, flying carrion and heavy undead cavalry. Utterly scary! The terrain was two hills and a patch of rough ground, all of which was basically on the centre lin, and  we rolled a pitched battle. My Swordmasters and Silver Helms advance. The medium cavalry deployed deep as they ca...

Warhammer Old World: High Elves (Melniboneans) vs Chaos Undivided

Matt and I had agreed to play Old World. Good old fashioned dice throwing bloodbath. Despite going to the club for five years, this is the first time we actually got to have a game against each other, as our interests don't often overlap. Matt is a lovely bloke and I knew this would be a cracking game. My High Elves (dating back to the 80s, almost older than Matt), vs his  beautifully painted Chaos horde at 1500 points. Mort sat in to help guide us through the increasingly labyrinthine rules. We deployed in a pitched battle. Seven units each by pure fluke. My plan was to pin down the right flank with shadow warriors and reaver cavalry (both shooty types), shot the units approaching to pieces, and then left the elite Swordmasters, and the General Elric, do the slicy-dicey thing they do so well. The main thrust was to be my Silver Helm cavalry who were to ride down teh chaos knights the out-numbered 2:1 and let them loose in the backfield. Great plan huh! Matt had two chariots, two...

Warhammer Old World: High Elves vs Dwarves

Last Wednesday, Cliff and I reconvened at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club to have another bash at Warhammer: Old World. This time, I was using my High Elves/Melnibonians. This is my old army of choice, which hasn't seen daylight since 1999/2000, and is made up of units that date back to the 80s (apart from The Shadow Warriors, which are 1990s vintage) and are the type of High Elves that give Dark Eles a bad name. I had lots of option sto choose from (especially as I found I had waaaaaay more foot and cavalry than I remembered, so I went with 15 x archers, 9 x Shadow Warriors, 20 x Swordmasters of Hoeth, 9 x Silver Helms, 10 x reavers, an eagle, an eagle claw bolt thrower, Prince (Elric) Army standard bearer on horseback (with Silver Helms) and Riotla Snow (with Shadow Warriors) and a lvl 2 mage, all with lots of magical equipment. It was a lot of shooty power, just to try it out I guess. I was up against Cliff's dwarfs, unchanged apart from he dropped the miners, and took a war...
