"What was it we heard them say: 'Looks like a nice village, be a shame of anything happens to it!'" Smalls the Stoat muttered under his breath, "not the sort of thing you say when visiting a place."
Matilda the ferret shook her head, "Why are we here Sir Dereck?"
The aged stoat veteran hefted his axe and looked at the gang of stoats, weasels and a ferret as they tooled up, "Someone told us Rufus the hound, and his gang, were in the neighbourhood we've been hired to deal with them, and oh boy, did they need dealing with, and we are being paid extra to cut their supply lines."
"You mean help ourselves to their kit!" Laughed the mage Teddy the Stoat, his sword sniggered nastily too.
"Right, everyone ready?"
"Matilda the Ferret, Teddy the mage, Eddy, Neddy, Smalls, Sir Dereck, Ron the Weasel, Gilly Weasel, Fred Weasel, and Harry."
"Yeah, we know who we are!" Teddy groaned.

Neddy looked out from behind a hut, he and Ron Weasel cocked crossbows "There's a lot of them out there!"
Ron nodded safely "But not as many as us."
"Rowan Rabbit, Rosie Rabbit the archer, Headley and Lady Jane the hares, Tufty the squirrels, a mouse assassin, Little Red, and two tooled up hounds, Woody and Rufus! Tough bunch!"
"Everyone sneak forwards!" Sur Dereck uttered, as he sprinted forwards.
"I can help out here," Teddy grinned, castling 'Stag's Leap' and catapulting his brother forwards.
Followed by Fred Weasel. Meanwhile, Teddy and Ron targeted Rufus and the Lady Jane, the mage, with crossbow bolts. Sir Dereck rested under the tree in the shade, sliding down trunk and sitting down with his axe on his lap.
Round the side of the village, Matilda and Smalls moved up, eyeing up the spear armed Rabbit Rowan. But Headley Hare was eyeing them up too.
Fur flew, as blades clashed. Matilda, even with her damaged arm should have been causing damage, but misses
"Oi, woofer, you coming out to fight!" Sir Dereck chided from under the tree, then immediately wondered whether hanging around with the likes of Smalls was bringing him down? Then Rosie the rabbit archer tried targeting the stoat knight, but her arrows bounced off his armour!
Next to the chapel, both factions played a waiting game, "Who do you think will poke their head out first?" Eddy whisperer, "Little Red and that war dog Woody are there, I'm sure."
"We need to get past them," Gilly grunted, "Easier way to block their way out of out of town."
Matilda cried, "Oi Smalls, could use a paw here!" As Headley's blows hammered into her, she had to block .
"Yaaaargh take that big ears!" Smalls screamed in, he swung hard, taking down Rowan the rabbit warrior.
Headley's sword sang out, smashing Matilda to the ground.
Smalls was not happy, he let out another scream, smashing into Headley the hare with his shinty stick.
Eddy hit the smaller hound Woody hard, and he crumpled to the deck, "Watch out for Red... Nah, too late " The beguiling mouse sank her knife into Ron Weasel, who failed to contact with his flail. Then she slammed it into Gilly, putting her down.
"Even bigger ears, take THIS!" The stoat 2iC smashes the hare fighter into the ground.
Then he piles into the ongoing fight that in the centre where Sir Dereck had been fighting Rufus the
hound, both were bloodied but the hound was massively healed bolstered by Lady Jane's healing spells. Harry and Tufty the Squirrel had been squaring off. Teddy, who had been sneaking down the church to block the way out too, was charged by Little Red, but his blade did not taste mouse blood, even though it cried out for it. Ron the Weasel had sprinted past the central brawl, and was now blocking the way out.
Rufus was laid low by Small's charge. So low that he did not recover. Word reached the Freeferrets after that despite all the local priest's best efforts, they could not raise him.
With both Rufus and Headley down, with two others out, the hound's gang broke and fled.
A short time later, the Free ferrets regrouped, counting their pennies. "What did we get from our wanderings?" Neddy pondered.
"Three of us ended up at the Postmistress," Ron shook his head, "what a pain, can we not work together on this?"
"Just like we can't use the freed large slave, as our gang is definitely full." Teddy moaned. "But at least the forest shrine's blessing will allow us to hide better."
Fourteen pennies for clearing up the town and seven for securing Rufus's bands escape route. Their magic garden netted another seven pennies, Harry found a sunken ship and nineteen more pennies were added to the band's coffers, while a black marketeer added 12 of equipment to their loot.
"Looks like the village is safe, that means we aren't going hungry for a long time" Sir Dereck grinned.
"Gilly and Matilda look like they are recovering well", Teddy added.
"Gilly took a bit of a knock, not as strog as she was," Eddy muttered.
"Yeah, has anyone told Matilda yet?" Eddy whispered to the others.
"Told Matilda what?" She asked as she came round
"They're nicked your stuff!"
"WHAT!"
