Warband - Taurians vs Hugh Elves - Is the grass greener?

Ky Gox, the Minotaur Lord, reclined against an ancient oak, his ax resting on the ground next to him. A pair of half moon spectacles perched on his snout, the first draft of one of the Centaur knight novel on his lap. One of teh Minotaur Shmen was looking across the valley at the Elven lands,
"You know the grass is definitely greener over there," the mage uttered, "but ity is heacvily guarded by elves".
"Shall we try?" The Lord enquired putting the manuscript down and folding his specatcles, hefting his ax, "I could do with the exercise!"

Phillip and I met up a couple of weeks ago for another game of Warband. Phillip was using the Hugh Elves, d6+2 cinc, d6+2 mage, 2 powerful archers, 3 shieldwall with resolute spears, 2 powerful knights and a unicorn. A solid, powerful list that can dseal damage and take it.
I brought out my Taurians, one of my favourite lists, but not been out in yeras. a d6 general, a d6 mage, 3 minotaurs (one with a hero) a unit of centaur knights, a unit of centaur archers with parting shot, and a unit of centaurs. Heavy hitters and mobile.
The terrain, all fell on the outside, woods and hill, creating a bottleneck the Taurians needed to get through. The centaurs and minotaurs surge forwards, even their mage, their weakest fighter. Apart from the general and one unit of centaurs, who stop for a snack. The Hero Minotaur was off and basically was way out ahead due to all his motivation dice, plus a gifted movement die and the hero die all coming up good.
On the left, Elven knights are massed with the unicorns behind as reserve, a solid-ish line of warriors hols the middle, and archers hold the right. The mage and general remain behind (and yes, the general did remain stationary for a turn. 'Perivale the Inert' again?) Ignore the bats, they are just there as a measuring tool.

High Elf cavalry crashes into Centaurs. Centaur archer snipe fairly ineffectivly at the other Elven knights, stopping them short.

The minotaur with hero slams into Elven line. Shieldwall and Resolute vs fear causing powerful beasts. A hard fight, but Minotaurs are hopeful of causing enough damage to break the line and jump either the mage or general. One won't fall back, and can absorb damage, the other causes piles of damage. Irrisistable foce vs Immovable Objects?

The lines close, but the Centaur knights rout after failing to contact. They are shot away by Powerful Elf archers. Where have we seen that before?

The left-hand Minotaurs swing in to support the centaurs, hoping two units on one might break the mounted long ears, but thety all forgot their tin openers. Outside them, the unicorns approach. Minotaur mages realise they are a target and they brought the wrong spellbook for this turn and should have used a shooting spell.

Contact all along the line. Centaur warriors break, Elven lancers are too powerful for them. Centaur mages are engaged too by the Unicorns. Minotaurs try to take on Elf bows as weaker units, but are met mobhanded and do not deal enough damage.

Back a forth between forces - well, mostly backwards for me as most elf units are resolute and don't fall back!

Unicorns vs mages, a tough fight, but the Unicorn's higher save and morale helps them surive, while the mages bounce.

The Tauruan lines are definitely getting thinner. Centaur knights had perished to Elven archery, the Centaur warriors are lost, and the Minotaurs are all taking hits. The Monotaur hero unit was bouncing off the front line (maybe I should have remembered the +! dice melee when you charge).. The Lord did polish off one Elf warrior unit, which was nice.

But as a Minotaur unit broke, the impetus was definitely with Phillip.
Victory Hugh Elves. Great fun game, lots of laughs again. Will work out how to beat Elves one year. Might be time for Dwarves, or dragons, or even a scenario from the rules...

Ky Gox looked at thebgreen pasture beyond. "Nah, we didn't want that that much!"

Black Powder 1870 Stats and Modifications

1870 Franco-Prussian Conflict in Black Powder Hi all, If you are reading this, it's because. like us, you are Black Powder fans and want to know how we manage the Franco-Prussian War. Anything below is by no way official, just the house rules we have developed over the last few years of playing. A few thoughts first: Fighting in the period is best described as hard fought assaults by Prussians, supported by superior artillery against superior but very strong defensive French lines. All ranges and movements are in cm scale, just to be awkward! All my forces are modelled on 3” square bases, apart from divisional commanders, skirmishers and artillery which have a frontage of 1½” and Corp commanders who are on a 2” base. Feel free to ignore that. My units are regiments of infantry,   brigades of cavalry and skirmish squadrons of cav. Artillery is either battalion as one gun, or a battery of two guns on a base, horse artillery have limbers attached. Army composition...
