28mm ECW for Pikemans Lament

FINALLY added the flag from Iain at Flags of War.



  A lock down project.

These figures were given to me by Mark sometime during the 00s! A real mix of Foundry, Essex, Redoubt and who knows what else!!

Mort at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club got me playing, after I won a copy of the rules at Rollcall last year.

So, the forces:

My forces are firecly pro-Parliament/independent (maybe)! Led by 'The Lion of the North' Lt James Whalley Esq., they are a rag tag bunch willing to take on all comers.

Proost Devlin Strengthening-Fields' Dragoons, his aim is to have them literate and employable after this unpleasentness is over.



Edmund's Ironsides, elite gallopers and uttely brutal when joined by Whalley himself.

Not sure why Mark - fiercely Royalists until late - had Roundhead heavies...

Baron Barry Bickerdykes Big Blue Bonnetted Boomers  - elite shot unit, verterans of many campaigns.

They found a supply of blue felt and had hats made.

Wupert's (no relation) Long Sticks - originally painted by Mark and highlighted and rejuvinated by me! They will get a banner from Flags of War, when all this unpleasentness is over.

They push the Wheelbarrow of Doom(tm), no one is really sure where it came from, but it appears to bring them luck each time it gets pushed into the fight. It was a random figure in Mark's bucket of figures, so I thought 'why not'!

The WIng and District Gentleman's Highland Dance Association, who have a hero in the front (armoured) and on the right, their perpetual embarressment of Mad Jock - who tends to drop his trews when the fight starts


Two versions of James Whalley, mounted and on foot, so he can switch units between fights. I just liked the two figures tbh!

The random miniatures in my lead pile thread

Hi all, As the months go on, I am finding more random stuff that does not fit into any catagory is creeping it's way up to the surface of my lead mountain.  I decided a few years back, rather than just throw it back like one of Nobby's escaped socks, I would actually paint some of them   Mutant Zombie by CP Models Or just a mutant? Blizkeig Commander IV - Hasty Assault

Mark and Stephen took my British at 1750 points, with effectively the same lists as before, but with two turns of preprogrammed artillery and a turn of smoke to assault my 1100 points of Germans who were in dugouts and gunpits. I chose to defend the four hills near my baseline. I has three HMGs, three mortars, two command teams and six infantry platoons, with two PAK36s teams. PAK36s and mortars on the back hill, two infantry and an HMG on the front. Infantry and Mortars in the left hill as a flank guard British stalled, turn 1 they failed to reach the table, so it took them at least four turns to advance. Artillery had landed on the right-hand hill, and rear hill, but had failed to kill anything, even with two 8 gun batteries of 25lbers . My ambush was sprung out the thicket. British infantry advancing developed an unfortunate habit of getting hit by mortars and HMGs. The British in turn 6 cleared the central hill with armour, but needed to get at least three infantry stand...
