Mortal Gods:Mythic - Hunt The Traitor - 4 sided scrap.

Thea looked out across the precinct, and shook her head. "How did we come to this? How have we upset Zeus, Hades AND a bunch of heroes?"
Erasusia, the Pristess of Hera, was in a foul mood, "How dare they hurt Leon! How dare they! Hera will here about this!" as she stormed around.
Ducking for cover, Hastrodeme, the leader of the temple guards, headed to the columns for cover "This is going to hurt! Us, or them, I'm not sure?"

Wednesday night, and another great
 game of Mortal Gods:Mythic.
The scenario is simple. Each warband had to nominate a character who was a traitor. The others had to hunt that figure down, First to kill a traitor wins. Traitios in red.
Mark brought heroes, featuring Jason, Heracles, Perseus and Atlante, two sets of skirmishers and some Argonauts.
David was using Zeus, and went with a wild centaur themed horde, with a centaur lord, with only his priest not being equine based!
Dave brought his undead horde of Hades, undead archers, undead warriors and two fallen heroes. (one nearest me was the traitor), temple guard humans, with a few human zealots added in for backbone, (although with skeletons, you don't need much more visible backbone).
I was using an unchanged Cursed Horde of Hera, three Gorgons including Medusa, Harpies, a lion, Temple Guard, a priest, a hero.

Deployment was a 9" square from the centre of the table edge, however Dave's Hades mob is so big, it did not all fit in the area. Good thing he can bring it on later. Yes, David only had 8 models for 500 points! Mine and Mark's wasn't much bigger.

How to win? Wasn't going to get near Mark as he was opposite me and Atlantae was going to be sitting back as an archer, just like I planned to do with Medusa. So it was one of Dave or David's that was my best chance. The Hades hoard would be like wading through treacle. The Centaurs would be a 'could I catch them' problem, as I could not really shoot them down.

I moved my Temple Guard right to anchor on the rocks. Mark sent Heracles and Jason with the Argonauts towards the dead. I reasoned if I anchored and watched developments, I might find a way in to either side.

The lion headed for the rocks, and one of David's centaurs charged into my temple guard. Turn 1, yikes! That is quick! Plus he gets a bonus for charging. Thankfully the wounds were minor. Dave's priest, after trying to cast lightning bolt on Hera, had to step back to get a clear line of sight (hitting your own centaurs rumps with lightning is generally considered bad form). At which point, the Priest found himself hit on the head with the 'Apple of Discord' thrown by Thea, and this means he attacks himself, wounding himself with his own attacks!

One of David's centaur archers was sniping at the lion, while his other was sniping at Mark's heroes peltasts. My force doesn't really have ranged attacks, apart from Medusa, so David had an advantage here.

Medusa and Stheno move to block the gap. Could Stheno fit through the gap and shortcut the rocks?

Did not find out. The centaur archer swung round the rocks and his shooting took out the lion. Erasusia could not save it With long range healing, not a single success. Now she is annoyed, and remember, Hera can be a spiteful godesss. The other centaur archer charges the heroes archers on the other side. Medusa looks on, also about to unleash her shooting.

Dave attempts to throw javelins at Euryale, 6" range, plus a d6 range when moving. 7 1/2" away. Oops! Missed!

Euryale decided that Dave's human peltasts were not going to throw javelins at her all night and piled in. Got one, but I was hoping for more. Dave's Fallen Hero traitor was also in range (the one in the red cloak). A great roll could have seen me crashing straight at him, but Dave's boys fought hard. It's a BIG force, but really cheap for Dave, and mostlynhas one activation each, which makes it a shambling horde alright! (The unpainted archers were a loan from David, the unpainted hoplites are more temple guard)

The Harpies flew over the rock and hit the archer centaur, but he hit back, much harder, and theybare unarmoured, so perished in one hit (he did sux wounds, it was really impressive).
In the distance, Heracles and Jason trade blows with the undead. iIt was like a Harryhausen movie!
Another of David's centaur warriors charged into Hera, causing three wounds on her! Thankfully, Erasusia was able to heal her right up to full health. Such a useful skill.
The centaur warrior tried a second activation, but Medusa shot him a look, a coqetish wink, and he was suddenly four-legged garden feature. What a shame!

Dave's centaur hero traitor came forwards, Stheno decided to charge the archer (she's obviously a cat lover too), but oops! 1! Failed charge.
In the background, Perseus and the peltasts hold off the other centaur archer.

Perseus was unleashed. He is a big hitter, and has a really useful skill, where he can bounce abilities back on the user. Not good for Medusa, but might be funny with Erasusia's healing abilities... Anyway, Mark had given him a secret weapon; he 'borrowed' Hermes' winged sandles. Perseus can fly over enemy combatants, and can move double distance, ignoring terrain or other troops. (7" becomes 14", plus charge roll). A good charge could win Mark the game. Unless he rolls a 1...

There is no way that could happen twice!

Perseus FINALLY charges in! He lands five massive hits on the traitor Centaur leader, but...
No conversions! Over 100 points of miss.

Medusa tries to remove the centaur archer to ckearba path to the traitorLcentaur, two wounds from her four attacks would do it. Oh typical!

Stheno works out how to charge, at last! She slices through the centaur archer, and becausevshe did doubke thevarchers remaining wounds, continues her attack, slamming into the traitor centaur leader. We had all been causing hits, just not wounding, until Stheno decided to show how to do it.

Stheno sliced him to pieces! This snatches victory for Hera.
A slightly annoyed Perseus looks on. He had caused some hits, but could not get the kill, Even Mark's peltasts had been trying to use their javelins to soften up the traitor, but had missed.

A win for Hera. Only turn 2 (but it was a big game, it took us all night to get to here).

Definitely still not sure about the Harpies. Think i could invest in better units. The three Gorgons were definitely better used and I think I got the hang of them. The lion was unlucky. Erasusia's healing was 50/50, but we only played two turns. Anyway, Hera and temple guard did well.

Mark was unlucky, he should have had the win vs David, and he did not really get into Dave's undead, I think he might have waded through units if he had.

Dave's units didn't really get going. Not sure how heavily they would have hit? Most of us had characters with two or more activations who could make fast progress across table. He also did not lose many units, so he he could not respawn them further down table. Few more turns, he would have caused us all issues with sheet mass.

David centaurs had so many fast moving and powerful units, he needed to pick a target, gang up and go for it, as he causes more hits the faster he goes, so maybe wave attacks? Break off, go again? He nearly pulled this off vs Thea, but I think Medusa scared them off. His archers are nasty too, and also score more hits when moving! Two of those working in concert could be devastating.

"Never letting a centaur near you again!" Erasusia was petting her lion, who was recovering slowly but still worse for wear. Her healing was helping.
Thea and Hastrodeme poured a more relaxed flagon of wine each. One was passed Erasusia. Three more goblets were also carefully passed back to the Gorgons. "Yamas ladies! Well done."

Black Powder 1870 Stats and Modifications

1870 Franco-Prussian Conflict in Black Powder Hi all, If you are reading this, it's because. like us, you are Black Powder fans and want to know how we manage the Franco-Prussian War. Anything below is by no way official, just the house rules we have developed over the last few years of playing. A few thoughts first: Fighting in the period is best described as hard fought assaults by Prussians, supported by superior artillery against superior but very strong defensive French lines. All ranges and movements are in cm scale, just to be awkward! All my forces are modelled on 3” square bases, apart from divisional commanders, skirmishers and artillery which have a frontage of 1½” and Corp commanders who are on a 2” base. Feel free to ignore that. My units are regiments of infantry,   brigades of cavalry and skirmish squadrons of cav. Artillery is either battalion as one gun, or a battery of two guns on a base, horse artillery have limbers attached. Army composition...
