Mahdist Revolt in 10mm, A Black Powder playtest

David very kindly agreed to come round and playtest the Black Powder Sudan ideas. Table set, Anglo-Egyptians have to make it to the oasis. David took the allied forces, I used my newly painted Mahdists. David deployed the Anglo-Egyptians. Left-to-Right: Egyptian Cavalry (not the best) and Egyptian Artillery to the left. British in Khaki, Egyptian garrison forces (not great morale), Regular Egyptians (better), Sudanese Infantry (not great shots, decent fighters) and Red Coated British Infantry. David makes a quick advance down table with his left hand brigade. David's right hand brigade failed to activate, apart from his artillery. Two Mahdist brigades of units appear. I randomised where they were arriving, and this was a roll of 1 and 2. My two left-hand units try to advance, but the central one is disrupted from David's artillery fire as he formed out into line, while his cavalry pulls back, uncertain of what to do. My right hand brigade slowly advances behind. My left-hand un...

Warhammer Old World: High Elves (Melniboneans) vs Chaos Undivided

Matt and I had agreed to play Old World. Good old fashioned dice throwing bloodbath. Despite going to the club for five years, this is the first time we actually got to have a game against each other, as our interests don't often overlap. Matt is a lovely bloke and I knew this would be a cracking game. My High Elves (dating back to the 80s, almost older than Matt), vs his  beautifully painted Chaos horde at 1500 points. Mort sat in to help guide us through the increasingly labyrinthine rules. We deployed in a pitched battle. Seven units each by pure fluke. My plan was to pin down the right flank with shadow warriors and reaver cavalry (both shooty types), shot the units approaching to pieces, and then left the elite Swordmasters, and the General Elric, do the slicy-dicey thing they do so well. The main thrust was to be my Silver Helm cavalry who were to ride down teh chaos knights the out-numbered 2:1 and let them loose in the backfield. Great plan huh! Matt had two chariots, two...

Mortal Gods - Two fights in an evening

"Reports are we have had a traitor in our midst, and he's legged it over to the Spartans" Leandros looked at his assembled troops, Tychon looked at his archers, "Got plenty of arrows lads, we are going to be busy." Polykratos looked over the ruins, "Very odd ruins today, is the style Persian or something?" Tycho leaned forwards to the slingers, extra bullets made up? Peltasts with loads of javelins."  The hoplites with the forces nudged ded each other and muttered, about the shooty types getting all teh glory, "You guys will be definitely busy," Leandros looked at the heavies, "there's lots of hoplites to beat up." "By the way," Polykratos looked at Jeff the  mousikos, "they say the Spartans think you betrayed them to us." "They just didn't like my new song list, man!" "What, the one you called 'Hey, Sparta, you suck!"    David and I met up for an evening of Mortal Gods fun, M...
