One Hour Wargame: Sci-Fi: Mandalorians & Clones vs Tau & Kroot with drones.

Mort and I gathered at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club, got out or One Hour Wargame rules, set out our terrain and counted out our forces and talked through a few extra rules.

All Mandalorians and Clones all count as 'tough' due to high quality armour. Mandalorians have pistols and jetpacks (count as 'mounted)', one is a 'bruiser' (as he has a Beskar blade). Clones are armed with rifles and one LMG.
Sabine Wren is armed with the 'Darksabre' (no chance of recovery if knocked down), and rated as 'sharpshooter', 'leader' and 'bruiser'. Ursa Wren is also a 'leader'.

Tau get two cards to hit when shooting as theyy are all ace shots, but if hit must draw two cards and choose the lowest as they are not that tough. Kroot are both 'bruisers' and 'toughs'. Droids cannot fight in melee. Mort's leaders had SMGs and grenades. Most of the rest of his troops are rifle armed with two LMGs.

Mort chose a scenario, three heavy supply crates rest on the centreline, and need to be recovered. Unfortunately, I could not use the jetpack to recover crates as they are so heavy, otherwise I would have won immediately, drones cannot pick up the crates due to an abject lack of hands!! Sunk!

My forces, a squad of six clones, two sections of three Mandalorians and Ursa and Sabine Wren, a tiny but hard hitting force.

The ruins and terrain around a partially constructed 'Slurm' pipeline.

Clones deploy behind the burnt out garage.

The Mandalorians have quite a way to go to get to their crates, but their fast speed will help, if they don't get distracted by the bouncy castle!

It's an even longer schlep for the other Mandos to a crate in the open.

Mort splits his forces into three large groups, two large Tau units supported by Kroot, and his droids and HQ in the centre.

Clones advanced under the canopy of the garage, the Mandalorians used their jetpacks to swarm as far forwards as they could go, while trying to find cover from the hail of Tau fire that was bound to come their way.

The Clones cross the ruined wall of the garage, using cover to help. Sabine does not care, trusting her armour.

Mandalorians use their cover to shoot down two drones with pistols (jump pack allowing the one nearest to pop-up shoot over terrain, the opponent gets cover, but it does no good in this instance). My Beskar duelist (sword weilding Mandalorian) is despatched instantly by a Tau long gunner.

The clone LMG gunner has a clear line of sight down the allyway to a Tau LMG gunner crouching behind the wall to the left of the sign, they exchange shots for most of the game.
(Look, it's a Mk40, just to really annoy sci-fi purists!)

Ursa and her three Mandalorians take as much cover as they can while they wait for Tau to come into range, one looks around and notices the crate he is practically standing on (it's the helmets). Eventually, he drags it back past Ursa.

It's like a scene from a western, as the LMG gunner opens up on more approaching Tau. His gun must have been loaded with blanks, as he could not hit a barn door all night!

In the centre, another case falls to the Mandalorians, while one drone gets up, shaking off and spitting out slugs it had swollowed.

"Sneak attack, bitch!" cries the drone as it flies in behind the Mando who just shot it, only to see it's blasts scatter off the rear armour. Beskar is a wonderful metal!

Which leaves it exposed to a counter attack by Sabine and the 'Dark Sabre', any wounds that go through cannot be recovered. Muhahahahaha...

Charge! And she misses...

Tau and Kroot advance along the pipeline, the third case is grabbed and the long, slow, process of dragging it home begins for the aliens.

The second drone moves up to support it's comrade, spraying Sabine with twin carbines. Thankfully, it's shots all bounce off her armour.

As the Kroot leave the safety of the pipeline, the LMG gunner continued to waste ammo and miss everything!

The hand of Mort moves through the air as my gunner wonders what his nickname will be from now on?

The first Kroot charges in, knocking down two clones, only to be (eventually) picked off by accurate clone rifle fire.

Sabine, AFTER FINALLY dispatching the drones, jumps on on Mort's leader, who valiantly tries to give her the kill by drawing a five.

Saline Wren, elite, Mandalorian, trained to fight from birth, combat trained by Jedi, weilder of the Darksabre, cannot hit a simple 5! Oh come on! This could have broken Mort, but nope, Ace, followed by...

A timely joker, and both Kroot are back up and ravaging the Clone gun line. The Clone sergeant had advanced to try and deal with a Tau that had attempted to innocently buy a can of Fizzyglug from the vending machine, a tactical boot was applied to it (the Tau, not the vending machine)! Now both Mort and I were on break tests each turn.

Sabine beats the retreat. A Mando also jumps in on Mort's leader, hoping to have better luck, but his leaders are made of tough Tau stuff and fail to die! The Mando is gunned down my mass SMG fire, but it allowed Sabine to retire.

On the left, two surviving Mandalorians engage Kroot and Tau at close range. Maybe not our best move, but the skip does look like it should provide cover (one Tau and a Mandalorian die fighting over it, like rabid racoons).

The troopers sheltering in the garage give the Kroot all the attention it deserved, engaging it with fire.

Mort's leaders advance, and gun down Sabine! Even the best Beskar armour cannot save her now, would she survive?

After dealing with the Kroot threat (those things are HARD)  the Clones advanced to try and sweep away the (now) more numerous Tau. The sergeant is gunned down by two advancing Tau riflemen.

The skip is liberated by a Kroot as the remaining Mandalorian falls back towards their baseline. Mort's leaders down Sabine again, and this time put the boot in to make sure she stays down. With my combat monster ineffective, plans were falling apart.

A swift counter punch, led by Ursa herself, sees a Kroot and a Tau squished by jetpack equipped Mandos landing on their heads!

With that, a joker is pulled and we both decide that the honourable thing is to see whether we both both fail morale. I do...

But I have two crates to Mort's one. A win, but an utterly pyrrhic one at that! 4 out of 8 Mandaloriams including Sabine and 4 out of 6 clones fell. Utterly bloody, the contents of the crates had better be worth it!

A great game. Mort's force choices were really fun to play against, a more numerous and great shooting team but weak if hit, whereas my higly mobile tanks were great for getting down table, but most of the time could not hit for toffee! Huge laughs, and yes, we both loved it!

Did we do this deliberately to upset any sci-fi purists out there? You decide!

The random miniatures in my lead pile thread

Hi all, As the months go on, I am finding more random stuff that does not fit into any catagory is creeping it's way up to the surface of my lead mountain. I decided a few years back, rather than just throw it back like one of Nobby's escaped socks, I would actually paint some of them.   Nemisis the Warlock - Khaos; Deadlock; the Warlock; the Shape of Things to Come; the Lord of the Flies; Holder of the Sword Sinister; The Death Bringer One of my all-time favourite 2000AD characters (2000AD is a British sci-fi based comic for those not from the fair shores of Blighty). "Creedo!" I got hold of two of these on Evil Bay, one uncommon (yellow base rim), one rare (red base rim), so I trashed the rare one (and kept the base elsewhere). This is a simple conversion of a heroclix figure,  Excessus, Sword Sinister replaced, base ripped off and new one sculpted, undercoated figure,  completly  repainted, flying stem attached. Sometimes, you just need a seri

Medieval Scots - A replacement army - second set of three spear units added

I  have, after much soul searching (no I could not find mine either), decided that I really should stretch my Pictish spearmen a whole 1000 years. 300ish to 1300 ish, so really stretching the whole Pict-morph-thing now. So 10mm to replace the fallen over the winter, this will be fun ( 18 months later, and summer is on the way and I finally started them ) This means a restart and finish with my Scots army back where I started with them for DBM, a successful army, but before MeG came out I had not touched them in 10 years, then I sold my 15mm version of them in 2014 (and then were instantly stolen from my late friend's car).  So, back to the 1300s version. 1315 to be exact. A project I've been putting off for years, but now I have started the Medieval Scots spearmen from c.1315 with Pendraken figures and flags . Got this lot finished just in time for this weekend's MeG tournement. More Scots spears and the generals Another 25
