Last Days:Apocalypse - Young Ones vs Prision Guards vs Zombies

(Student house, interior, zombie still claw at the crudely reinforced windows. Neil enters)
Neil: Guys, guys, it's weird, I was out in the garden, planting seeds, so nature can grow the seed, then we can eat the seeed...
Rik: Oh get on with it Neil.
Vyvyan (sporting an eye patch): Rik, shut up, you're dead!
Rik: Actually, I'm not, I think you'll find I'm perfectly fine...
*THWOP*
Vyvyan: No, I said you're dead. (Returns cricket bat to side of sofa)
Neil: Anyway, I was sewing the seeds...
Mike: Yes we know Neil, but is this going anywhere?
Neil: (excited) We yeah, like I noticed something really freaky...
All: Yes?
Neil: I turned round, and there was an arrow in my back.
(Neil turns around to reveal his back is full of arrows).
Mike: I wondered where the bow had gone I told Kat she could get some target practise in...
Rik (springing up for the floor, flailing arms and attempting to smarten himself up) Oh, a girl, a real life girl, well, if you say that she will soon fall for my consdwibble charms as the people's poet, she will be all over me like one of Neil's rashes...
Mike: Now Rik, I'm not sure in this modern age that is the way we approach the ladies.
Rik: Nonsense, she will find my wit, political insight, and charm irresistible, I'll be the real man around here, you'll see, you'll see!
*THUNK*
(Rik collapses behind the sofa, arrow embedded in his head. Katniss stalks across the living room, slumps on the sofa next to Vyvyan, Vyvyan hand her a can of 'Kestral' larger)
Vyv: You're most welcome.

Quick recap, after the last game vs Chris, Rik had been infected and had to be put down by Vyv. The gang had found a bow, and a heavy blade.
In the time between episodes, Neil had used his engineering to reinforce the windows, while Vyv and Lemmy had recovered from injuries. Mike had recruited a new gang member, a tough ex soldier called Katniss, who keeps whistling and talking about 'Districts'. Meanwhile, the zombies were still out there.

Chris was caught up with work, so Andy very kindly stepped in, bringing a pile of lovely terrain down to the club. We quickly set him up with a gang, made up of jump suit attired thugs and goons, led by an evil mastermind, who had taken over the local prison. His gang was armed with surplus sub-machine guns, a surplus assault rifle (in the hands of his worst shot, a Goon), pistols and batons. Plus there were a LOT of them!

On my gang, Philthy Phil picked up the katana (heavy blade) while Katniss had helped herself to the bow and  brought her own dagger (the boys were not going to argue). Compared to Andy, I did not have as much volume of firepower or mass of characters, but mine cost more individually , and my plan was always to sneak in, grab supply boxes, and sneak out again.

The table. My only terrain is the two bins and the two rocky bits! :( Andy's Gang is centre, surveying the terrain. Zombies off left, for later...

Supply tokens placed, and we decided that we would have 4 zombies on table, as it would be sporting!

Gangs deploy, I split the Young Ones with Katniss left, while Motorhead (second special guest appearance) come on from the right, using the containers as cover.
Note one token is on a roof!

After Katniss fails her shot, Mike shows her how effective a sawn-off shotgun can be against a zombie! Vyvyan follows Mike as muscle.

Two of Andy's characters go onto 'Lock'n'Load' (an overwatch system) shown by white counters, while his boss and Goon try to take out the approaching zombie with small arms fire. Red counters are noise, blue is expended ammunition. Two reds from the Goon's assault rifle show he is using a 'noisy' weapon!

That much noise is never good! It summons another zombie! Andy unleashes the full firepower of his over watching SMG.

Which promptly dispatches the arriving zombie.

Faced with an approaching zombie, one of Andy's thugs decided that the sensible thing to do was to dive through the garage window (and then Andy promptly forgot about this character for about three turns)!

Sneaky sneaky, Lemmy picks up a supply case. Turn 2, not bad!

Katniss climbs up onto the pipe work, while Neil scouts ahead. Vyv and Rick spy another zombie, and try and work out what to do!
Vyvyan: "Ear, I'll climb the pipes, and smash 'is skull in!"
Mike: "Just be careful up there Vyv!"

Back at the bandstand, Andy's goon backs away, while his boss and escort sneak round trying to get to the middle supply box.  Just visible to the right, one of Andy's goons starts to climb the ladder to retrieve the supplies from the roof (dice shows progress of the climb).

Three shots, six ammo counters, three noise counters. This thug is unleashing hell on the approaching zombie!

Dakkadakkadakka he takes him down.

But that amount of noise, so close to the table edge, brings on more wandering zombies!

And then the grunt realises that this is NOT a good time to run out of ammunition!

Or to fail your courage test so you can't break off!

The Boss and his Crony run at full speed to get to the central objective, but running means you cannot pick up and generate noise, which in turn, generates zombies!

Lemmy nonchalantly saunters off with the supply case, while Phil and Fast Eddy try to figure out what to do about the central objective that Andy's men had just arrived at!

Vyvyan, uttering more swearwords than is permissible before a 9 o'clock watershed, vaults the pipes and swings at the zombie.

While Katniss sneaks into cover to try to take down the two flanking figures of Andy.

Her shot goes wide! Andy decides to go full auto on his SMG, two shots hit, downing our heroine! (Typical, first game out and she's hit, drat!)

You might have an amazing CQC stat Vyvyan, but if you roll a 1 to off a zombie, it ain't gonna happen!

All those shots on Katniss summons another zombie (2 extra so far).

After a turn of ineffective combat, Andy's character was in trouble, especially as he had failed his terror test and the zombie was 'stricky' meaning he could not break off. Unfortunately, the noise of the boss running had brought another zombie onto the field, and the closest edge, in a straight line, was behind the in-combat thug!

All those shots at Katniss had also run someone else out of ammo! Not great timing, but thankfully the zombie would be slowed by the pipework.

The general scene, Vyvyan breaks off from his zombie, allowing Mike a clear shot. Andy's boss and Crony attempt to down our favourite punk, but misses.

The back at the rear, the nearest target for the zombie was engaged, and Andy's thug was in real trouble.

A reverse shot of Phil and Fast Eddy as they appraise their situation, Andy ran another grunt up, while the boss secured the area and the assault rifle armed Crony came back towards his baseline with the loot. He let off a burst of SMG fire, but the bullets bounced across the surface of the shipping container.

The grunt facing the zombies swings, and misses! Fighting two opponents is a major issue and he was on -1 to hit.

Up on the roof, the baton armed Goon secures another stash for Andy, he now has to just work out how to get it down from there.

Very sensibly, Andy's Katniss killers back away while the zombie they faced struggled over the pipes especially as he kept getting knocked back by Andy's hits.

A firefight erupts in the centre. It's a lot of noise with two shots from assault rifle fire!

MAN DOWN! Savaged by zombies, he is pulled to his doom.

Vyvyan: I know Michael, why don't we try a new sport, it's called zombie tennis. You shoot the zombie to me, and I'll hit it back to you!
Mike: Just pick up that set of supplies Vyv!
*BOOM!* Push back, *THWOCK*
Still the zombie survives.

Fast Eddy takes a shot at the Thug in cover, causing his two wounds, while Philthy Phil holsters his automatic, draws his salvaged katana, and charges Andy's Crony!

Unfortunately, Fast Eddy is dropped! The gang take a morale check and thankfully pass (-2 for losses, +3 for Mike's courage, +5 for characters on table).

All this shooting in the centre, plus defensive shots from Andy's flank has drawn even more of the undead  onto the table (that's 5 extras on the 4 we started with, quite a difference to my game vs Chris, including one extra had arrived on my right after Eddy's shot rang out).

Andy finally remembered his thug in the garage, and the three of them wreck their vengeance on the two approaching from the rear who had taken down their team mate. It's a lot of lead and noise though!

Philthy Phil exacts a terrible revenge on Andy's Crony, slicing him down. That's how you deal with threats with no noise!

The very next turn, I took the initiative and chose to be the aggressor, letting Phil charge on into the Thug that had dropped Fast Eddy!

Another zombie appears on Andy's baseline (and I thought Motorhead had the best baselines), which heads for the noise of his shooting. Andy's boss had decided that stacking around in the centre was a bad idea and had run back towards perceived safety!

Meanwhile, on the left, the three zombies close into assault with Andy's thugs and goons.

After three sets of zombie tennis, Mike is the eventual winner! Vyvyan has taken some damage, but shrugs, shoulders the loot, and delivers a swift kick to the zombie on the way past! My gang was now in full stealth mode as they retired with their second case of goodies.

Phil continues his reign of destruction, going all 'Kill Bill' on the fighter who had downed Eddy. He nonchalantly picks up the dropped case, and follows his band-mate off the streets.

On the left, one zombie is downed, by Andy's guy without close combat training or weapons!

But the other two dead pile on!

Andy's boss is met by another zombie, and despite his best efforts, cannot get him down

All that firepower is only attracting more (6 now)! On the left they finish off another.

One is dropped by a Thug as Andy's boss breaks away. But there are still more out there, attracted to the racket of SMGs.

The left finish another, sensibly scoop up the supplies, and sneak off!

But the boss and the Goon both find themselves out of ammunition, and having to duke it out mano-e-zombie. The Goon however fails his courage test, so a break-off was impossible.

Andy sends in his thugs to help. This was getting tense.

The boss, assisted by the kneeling thug, takes down another zombie.

While the Goon takes down one of the zombies attacking him.

But takes damage too.

How to deal with zombies, gang everyone up and kick the snot out of them! This effectively ended the game as Andy was able to withdraw the last of his men.

Andy lost three of his gang, and I lost two of mine. He had one infected (dead) one full recovery and a leg wound. He picked up two tokens, one was a riot shield, and some supplies, the other was just supplies. He managed to get two disarms and other skills spread across his gang.

In my gang, Katniss and Fast Eddy both acquired leg injuries, which will slow them considerably in the future. Neil picked up points but not enough for skills. Mike with his two zombie kills got up to level 2, and aquired 'Inspiration Presence, a tasty morale bonus. Lemmy carried off a case, so picked up extra endurance, making him tougher to hurt. Vyvyan acquired disarm, a useful skill. Philthy Phil with two kills and a supply cache taken off table acquired one extra skill this game, but while not allowing him the dirty fighter (that he should not have had before), he did get crowd control (allowing him to ignore out numbered minuses). We also picked up a heap of salvage points (23), a pump action shotgun, and a discarded SMG (one of Andy's gang must have dropped it). now, who to arm up?

Another fabulous game, much better with all the extra rules we forgot in game 1. Andy realised that close combat is a much safer option than shooting your way out of the situation. I acquired 1 extra zombie all game, Andy accrued 7! Plus the four we started with, it was a very different result to the one I fought vs Chris.

Vyvyan: I just don't understand it, this bat should allow me to wreck havoc on all and sundry.
Mike: It was working fine this morning,
Rick: So, you can't beat up a simple zombie, not so hard are you now...
*THWOCK*
Mike: Looks like it is working fine Vyv!

The random miniatures in my lead pile thread

Hi all, As the months go on, I am finding more random stuff that does not fit into any catagory is creeping it's way up to the surface of my lead mountain. I decided a few years back, rather than just throw it back like one of Nobby's escaped socks, I would actually paint some of them.   Nemisis the Warlock - Khaos; Deadlock; the Warlock; the Shape of Things to Come; the Lord of the Flies; Holder of the Sword Sinister; The Death Bringer One of my all-time favourite 2000AD characters (2000AD is a British sci-fi based comic for those not from the fair shores of Blighty). "Creedo!" I got hold of two of these on Evil Bay, one uncommon (yellow base rim), one rare (red base rim), so I trashed the rare one (and kept the base elsewhere). This is a simple conversion of a heroclix figure,  Excessus, Sword Sinister replaced, base ripped off and new one sculpted, undercoated figure,  completly  repainted, flying stem attached. Sometimes, you just need a seri

15mm By The Fire and Sword Transylvanians commission.

Principality of Transylvania ( those ones , not those ones , get your mind out the gutter). Batch 4:- Ten more bases of Transylvanians (so thirty figures) for Manny, this time Comitatus or heavy household troops. Heavy lancers. A lot more colourful than the light horse. As ever, Manny will do his own basing and add flags later. Lots of cloaks Quite a sizable force Batch 3: 30 extra Transylvanian light horse for Manny Not as bright as others, but these are lower order troops. Advance Lots of hairy cavalry As ever, Manny will base these himself. That way lads! Player's eye view At the trot The force, so far (there's still have a bag of blisters to do) Batch 2: As ever, Manny will add the flags and his own basing at his leisure. 12 bases of household levy lancers (36 figures, not sure how many units that equates to) for the 15mm Transylvanians. Only realised whe

Medieval Scots - A replacement army - second set of three spear units added

I  have, after much soul searching (no I could not find mine either), decided that I really should stretch my Pictish spearmen a whole 1000 years. 300ish to 1300 ish, so really stretching the whole Pict-morph-thing now. So 10mm to replace the fallen over the winter, this will be fun ( 18 months later, and summer is on the way and I finally started them ) This means a restart and finish with my Scots army back where I started with them for DBM, a successful army, but before MeG came out I had not touched them in 10 years, then I sold my 15mm version of them in 2014 (and then were instantly stolen from my late friend's car).  So, back to the 1300s version. 1315 to be exact. A project I've been putting off for years, but now I have started the Medieval Scots spearmen from c.1315 with Pendraken figures and flags . Got this lot finished just in time for this weekend's MeG tournement. More Scots spears and the generals Another 25
