Brighton et Gloriam MeG 500BC-200AD Game 4 vs Simon & Ptolemaic

Simon, our glorious organiser and umpire, was my round 4 game, two desert based armies, fighting in the snows of the Sinai!

Simon's list, somewhat hampered by his lack of generals.

I snuck my Italians through the civitas that I won at Brighton last year! Looking to get them into the left hand rocky ground. My cavalry, after deploying to the right of the town, had swung hard left to try and secure the points of the camels!

Which they closed on quickly. My Italians also hopped across to the rocks.

The two battle lines face off, my superiors and average 5s face down a wall of average and superior pikes, Thracians and Nellies! Eek!

My Triarii are about to be pin cushioned by the Tarentine cavalry - shield cover again?

It's the last game, no point sticking around!
CHARGE!

My cavalry took a wound on the way in, but supported by the Italians, looked forwards to matching it with poor camels!

CRUNCH! That's a lot of foot and elephants there. I was generally down here, so this is a nail biter.

The result of the charge, I lose a base, but the camels are taking red/white dice and suffer badly.

Two black dice, two wounds on my Triarii, 1/36 chance to kill a base. BOOM! Good shooting TeX!

The camels break (2-0) and my cavalry pursue into the Xystophori (that's the last time I try to spell that ), superior, charging lancer, melee experts. In a 4, this won't go well, at all!

In the centre, Simon's pikes start to chew lumps out of my valiant foot! However, I kill a nellie on the first swing, and four warband are taken down!

Ohhh, not a bad result for the charge on the Egyptian lancers!

Or was it! I lose a base, so do the noble knights!

The elephants and the warband break (6-0). Simon sends in spears against the elephants.

Meanwhile, Simon's reserve closes on my somewhat battered Triarii, vainly supported by my Cretans. 8 pikes vs 3 superior spears, this was a death sentence!

My cavalry scatters, (6-2) that was trouble, but my Italians (loose foot) are in rough going, meaning they would be up against the lancers in terrain that suited them.

Three knights pile in, versus 5 auxilia. Eek!

My superior legionaries catch Simon's spears in the rear who had just broken the elephants (6-4).

The spears didn't last long (8-4), then we followed through into the rear of Simon's pikes (who also followed through). The double skull was followed by double skull and a wound, saving the Triarii's bacon, and winning me the game! (15-4)
Simon was completely crippled by his lack of command structure, but his force was good. If his pikes had had a bit more luck my average legions would have been steamrollered.

Overall, 40 points for the weekend, and 8th out 16 players. Not a bad result considering I did so badly on the first day. Great weekend, thank you for organising Simon.

The random miniatures in my lead pile thread

Hi all, As the months go on, I am finding more random stuff that does not fit into any catagory is creeping it's way up to the surface of my lead mountain.  I decided a few years back, rather than just throw it back like one of Nobby's escaped socks, I would actually paint some of them   Mutant Zombie by CP Models Or just a mutant? Blizkeig Commander IV - Hasty Assault

Mark and Stephen took my British at 1750 points, with effectively the same lists as before, but with two turns of preprogrammed artillery and a turn of smoke to assault my 1100 points of Germans who were in dugouts and gunpits. I chose to defend the four hills near my baseline. I has three HMGs, three mortars, two command teams and six infantry platoons, with two PAK36s teams. PAK36s and mortars on the back hill, two infantry and an HMG on the front. Infantry and Mortars in the left hill as a flank guard British stalled, turn 1 they failed to reach the table, so it took them at least four turns to advance. Artillery had landed on the right-hand hill, and rear hill, but had failed to kill anything, even with two 8 gun batteries of 25lbers . My ambush was sprung out the thicket. British infantry advancing developed an unfortunate habit of getting hit by mortars and HMGs. The British in turn 6 cleared the central hill with armour, but needed to get at least three infantry stand...
