Test of Honour - First game. Take the bridge

Wednesday - Leighton Buzzard. Neil kindly took me through the Test of Honour rules. It's similar to Mortal Gods. Neil's terrain is beautiful. My single building sits off, left. We went for a stand up fight, Neil arrived at the riverlet first, but found it uncrossable apart from at the bridge (random rol;). My force, (borrowing Neil's cards) three Samurai of different types, and four units of Ashugaru: two spear, one archers, one arquibusiers - 23 points. Sure there is a way of getting it to 24... Neil had two samurai, two spear armed Ashugaru, two archers and a shooter too. My shooting forces escort the fighting types in. My battleworn samurai is behind the shrine center-left, My first shot, the dice are slightly different to Mortal Gods (no wild/pegasus for instance). I got hits, but Neil also saved loads more. My Battleworn Samurai took a series of serious hits from shooting here. Passed his 'Test of Honour', but took an arm injury. -1 attack dice. Drat! The acti...

28mm Uesugi Samurai for Test of Honour - Bad Squiddo, Sarissa, Footsore

As ever, I arrive late to the party when my local club tries out new rules. From the 'Mortal Gods' stable of rules from Footsore, my first game is against Neil on Wednesday (who sold me the Oathsworn figures) plus three female fighters, I had bought off the Great Bad Squiddo. Decided to paint them as my favourite clan Uesgui, which I already have in 10mm and have loved using for MeG and ReG.   Top view   I also bought a Sarissa farm building, to have something to fight over.   Beautiful sculpts, love the armour They've come up alright   Samurai retainer Ready for action   He cuts both ways!   Tepo armed ashugaru   They go bang!   Spear armed ashugaru   Brace! "Will you watch where you are putting that!" Archers   "Pull!" The other side of the farm   Couldn't hit... Or that side

15mm Breton light horse commission - Donnington Ancient and Modern

The chap who had me do the Spartans and Irish asked me to do a small batch of Donnington A&M Breton light horse. He will add his own basing. Enjoy Found the standard bearer I forgot! Oops! Again, I've tried to keep them 'muted', as if in 'no regular laundry service'. Chap on the far left, with his back to us, is a leader type. Top view "Here's the plan, ride up, chuck javelins, ride away." "Same as usual then!" "Yes, but make it look good!" "Oh, we can do that boss!"

Soldiers of Napoleon in 10mm. Imperial Guard Vs Russians

Neil and I met up for a SoN bash, a 1000 points of Nigel's Imperial Guard Vs Neil's beautiful Russians, all in glorious 10mm. My list was basically the same as last time, except my infantry divisions now each had 4 x Young Guard (who, at present, look very Prussian), and I've reduced some of the cavalry assets, and dropped full casions for one infantry artillery unit and other items. Neil fielded eleven batteries of artillery, a unit of dragoons, two units of jagers and a lot of line infantry. We both had a light cavalry brigade in reserve. At deployment, it quickly became apparent quite how outnumbered my force was going to be! 11 infantry units vs my six, my three on table batteries plays 4. Plus a unit of dragoons. At least I out cavalry him, by one, but he held the initiative each round. Neil's beautiful army stretches wall-to-wall, mine barely covers one flank! On the left, a Young Guard battalion covers the flank. My Guards Heavy Cavalry brigade advances onto Ne...

Soldiers of Napoleon - French Imperial Guard vs Austrians - bad day to be a hussar.

Whilst down in Wiltshire for the Devizes comp, Nigel very kindly gifted me his 10mm Imperial Guard division from FOGN (Field of Glory Napoleonics), and although I had rebased the cavalry and generals (including painting some), the guard themselves were not finished. I scrabbled together a 900 Soldiers of Napoleon list (which turns out to be illegal, read the rules Will), and fielded it Vs Mark's undefeated Austrians. My army, including reserves, was twelve units and Mark could basically do that in two brigades! My list : Two brigades of two five Old Guard infantry, with two twelve pounders and full cassions. Guards Heavy cavalry brigade. Five Grenadiers a Chevel. Five Guards Dragoons. Three batteries of 8lber guns. Guards light cavalry brigade. Four Guards lancers, four Guards Chasseurs a Chevel. Three batteries of three 8lber guns. Mark had: An Avent Guard brigade with hussars, artillery, jagers and two infantry units, two dragoons with horse artillery as his cavalry brigade,An in...
