A quick dive into the Early Medieval lists for a teaching game with Dik. Dik had Nikephorian Byzantine, so I had a choice of Sassanids or Early Scots. Scots it was... It's been so long since I've done one of these... Blooming lockdown. Dik came round for a socially distant game in my garden, the rain just held off, and we had a thoroughly good time. Dik is a long time gamer from the mighty Leighton Buzzard club . Nikephorian is potentially a hard army, many choices of troops, and it is a cool army. The table ended up being dense standard and two hills fell into Dik's side. Look he's got the whole boxed set! But I managed to outscout him by 20%, so he deployed first. A mass of tooled up long spears, shieled wall AND shield cover, all armed with bows held the centre. Two superior cavalry and a light horse to my left, katafracts and thematic cavalry (lancers with shoot and charge bows) to my right. Rach demanded a game... She has been helping roll the dice during lockdown games, and wanted to try a 'harder' game (well, maybe a medium one Daddy)! Who was I to refuse? So I broke out two even-ish forces, 19th Division X Corps Prussians, and 4th Division, 1st Corps, French, plus a division of Dragoons. So, before we watched ' Artemis Fowl ' (it's not bad, just mucks up the beginning of the book, watch with low expectations and an open mind). Rach chose the 'shooty army' - French. The odds were stacked against me, Rach had more troops, and she's 8! Rach was assisted by her 'squishies', it's a barren, featureless plain out there! She decided to get her guns up first, von Moltke would be proud, even if she was playing the French! Move, deploy, fire. I am so proud! Our remore this game, and my turn to 'host' this week: Ruritania Gazette *Princess Eliene von Schwanz-Necken has been captured!* Again.. That's the third time this week. The Grand-dutchesses' step-daughter-in-law has something of a reputation. However, what is different this time is whoever took her also took her diary, and that diary contains rather incriminating information on most of the officers in the army of Ruritania, plus several members of the Royal families.
