Wooden Spoon for Derventio VI

As is traditional! Derby is a bit moist at the moment, Boards and Swords is on a slight rise, so was unaffected by recent storms.

Xenos Rampant: Xenomorphs vs Battle Droids in Fighting Withdrawl

Stephen and I got together at the Leighton Buzzard club for a game of Xenos Rampant. He was using Star Wars Legion Battle Droids, I was using Aliens from Another Glorious Day In The Corps. You've got to live these rules, if only for that!  I had one large swarm and two small swarms of lesser Xenomorphs, all infiltrators, all cunning (boosted defense), all slow and hive mind. I also had the Queen, Greater Xenomorph, razor sharp claws, cunning and infiltrate too. She rolled a 1 on the Aggressive commander roll, and got 'no attacks, unless wild charge' rule! Stephen had two 10 droid squads of lights (B1s), a squad of B2 Super Battle Droids (heavy infantry), General Grevous (Elite) and a Droid battle tank (tank, surprisingly). All 'mechanoid', so no morale until under half strength, when a double on an activation roll = shutdown mode engaged. We put out 4' of terrain, and before you could say "ROGER ROGER" rolled 'Fighting Withdrawal'. Technically

10mm Franco-Prussian War, French 2nd Corps vs Prussian X Corps

Andy and Dave kindly invited me back to the Aylesbury Wargames Club, and after some discussion about which armies/rules to play, we came down on The Franco-Prussian War. I volunteered my 10mm troops, and Black Powder, using my stats here . When I got there, the gents had kindly set up the beautiful terrain for me, and it was nicely neutral to boot. So, the objective became to take the two road junctions. I also left my dice and tape measure at home, so thanks Dave for the lend. You will also see jelly beans acting as 'disordered' markers, so no shooting or moving while disordered. Also, it was Andy and Dave's first game with Black Powder, so I did not take many photos as were also were laughing too much!  The Prussians, played by me, 19th Division advanced quickly, coming up the road and 20th Division was swinging right of the two copses, supported by 5th Cavalry Division. My Corps artillery were on the left hand hill, whereas 20th artillery was on the rise to the right. T

Xenos Rampant: Two games featuring my Soviets vs Mark's Werewolf Germans

Mark and I got together for a game of Xenos Rampant.  Boing! My forces were using the 'Soviet' rules from the book. All units have 'unreliable' Two units of large infantry with heavy weapons, one small unit with assault doctrine (SMG squad), sniper squad with anti-sniper training, a support weapon squad with heavy weapons and armour-piercing bullets. The pice de resistance was a unit of Romanian 'advisors', unarmed berserker infantry mercenaries with extra armour with razor sharp blades (Vampires). All my figures from the amazing Bad Squiddo games .  Mark in game one had two werewolves (Greater Xenomorphs), two elite infantry, a heavy infantry (as he was minus points due to rolling a 1). He had been in a rush and had forgotten his lists, so took absolutely no upgrades. Iit really worked well. Terrain was set, and we rolled Scenario Delta: Orbital Drop. This is the second time I've plaved this scenario, and I love it. It's so well thought out. Mark def
