David and I met at Leighton Buzzard Wargames club this week for some Cruel Seas action.
The last time I played was remotely vs the Timecast boys, so it was great to actually get the toys on table vs a real opponent.
David chose British, leaving me with my Germans (I only have Brits and Germans, may have to remedy that).
We looked through the scenarios and decided on Rescue Party. A clapped outstranded US PT boat needed rescuing, who would get there first?
My S-100 boats arrive on opposite corners, gunning their engines.
One of these had it's mid-mounted twin 20mm swapped out for the dreaded quad 20mm flak.
David's plucky Brits came in at full speed, somewhat shortening my chances for hitting him to 1 on a d10!
However, slowing to combat speed at pointblank range does not help you're survivability, no matter how small rolling a 1 will cause an awful lot of damage when a twenty mm cannon opens up.
David ganged up on my right-hand S-100, however no matter how many times he shot at her he only did one point of damgae, and that was with a SMG! On the left my two S-100s move past a lone Vickers, heading to take down the rescue boat..
However, being stern raked by a twin 20mm cannon could hurt a lot! Actually, it did, it even silenced the 37mm gun. Oh, and David's boats are VERY nicely painted!
The rescue boat, having slowed to slow, was easy pickings and turned turtle after being hammered from all sided by fire from three German boats.
Followed shortly by the PT boat which having stalled also sprang a leak (David had to roll each activation, a 10 was a sinking) and the crew were forced into life rafts!
With the loss of a second Vickers, the British broke off, leaving the Germans to pick up three sets of crews.
That's quite a lot of sunken tubs, but the wine gums were tasty...
We reset and tried again. David chose to go in mob-handed on my right-hand boat, but virtually ignored the rescue boat, which took a large amount of damage, but I carried on with my plan, once the S-100 was through the screen, it slowed down to (hopefully) collect the crew of the stranded boat.
While sinking the rescue boat (again), slowed down to 'rescue' the US crew from their stricken boat (these Amercan's must work on their maintenance issues).
While my other two boats steamed in, guns blazing.
Another British boat has lumps torn out of it as it sails too close to the S boat.
Glub!
David broke off again. Two wins from two fast paced and fun games. The random draw of the rules quite often meant David was forced to move and fire first, so my smaller, but heavier force was likely to fire and move last.
Two great games, a real laugh and will definitely be played again.
