10mm MeG, Imperial Romans vs Early Mycenaeans

A trail for both Mark and I, his Mycenaean, in preparation for Warfare, my Imperial Romans ready for London tomorrow! The battle in full flow. Mark brought his massive and very pretty Mycenaean as both a war-up for Warfare, but also to test out my latest Roman configuration. If my Romans were shocking, it was a bit late to change them now! Not giving away my army list, just yet, but will once the fights this weekend are over... Honest, guv! Very dense terrain, with a forested flank (left, and all our terrain picks fell in the left! This means as there is no space for them , they are lost! (Two villages, a rough hill and a gentle hill should be in there somewhere). This just means Mark with his close order army gets the clear terrain he needed. I deployed left, bows in the wood, legions and auxilia in a nice, straight line, as 'Barker Intended', with cavalry sitting back behind the line as a buffer. This was before generals needed to be deployed, as Mark with 13 TuG...

10mm Later Romans

An ongoing project (ongoing as in started in 15mm in 1992), but mostly now 10mm Pendraken for Mortiem et Gloriam. This project keeps adding to itself! I revised my Imperial Roman list from Meglomaniacs and Warfare last year, ready for The London Grand Tournement next weekend (an open event, so what to take), and realised that certain factors were not working in my favour: 1) Catafracts - average catafracts absorb a lot of attention, but loooking back at their track record, die almost every game, lots of points tied up for no real return there. 2) Equites Illyricanii, they don't provide any extra scouting bonus within the army at present, and die too easily without melee experts. 3) This army gets a truck load of superiors, both cavalry and foot, so why not use them? 4) Exceptonal foot. Yes please! This allows some hard hitting units, but man do they cost! This means subtle reinforcements that have to be, err, cheap to keep a suitable break point. Legio Praesidienses, p...

MeG Early Medieval Early Scots vs Normans

A historical match-up, is that allowed!!! Nick wanted to try out a Dark Age force for The Age of Inadequate Lighting that I am running at the fabulous Boards & Swords in Derby in October. I only have one list from the ' Early Medieval ' section of MeG , my Early Scots, so successful , so far , so when Nick arrived with a Norman force, we were on for a historical match. The terrain was open, with me attacking, Nick is working on some posh stuff, before anyone complains about his cloth. Two pieces of cavalry friendly magic terrain, and a wood. His dinner was fish, chips and mushy peas. Deployment, we both chose to avoid the wood, but Nick was obviously planning to use the cavalry friendly magic terrain for his knights to pile through, whereas my close formation Scots would be massively disadvantaged in, so we skirted (kilted?) around it. My Viking allies (really Anglo-Danish, under Edger Aetheling) show how much they hate their oppressive occupiers by immediat...
