Brighton et Gloriam MeG 500BC-200AD Game 2 vs Stephen & Carthaginian in Spain

Game 2, and after a lovely toastie at the Dice Saloon, I was playing another old friend, Mr Stephen Stead. Lovely bloke, using Carthaginian in Spain. Hard list in the hands of a good player. Will be a real challenge to beat.   Deployment, the table was a bald as a coot. And somewhat shiny, which has made the photos look like we were playing on ice! Deployment was me hanging hard on the right flank, looking for anywhere to hide! My Italians come out the forest to play, but Stephen has more and better cavalry than me, it was a case of breaking through the foot line before I was squished! That closed up fast! Stephen was holding back his Spanish, but his spears were tight enough to hold me while his cavalry closes. It's close, could I get through? Stephen moves to contacts my two 5 stand legionarii. He has stopped at 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001mm!  But my elephants are very keen to make the acquai...

(9/100x80=7.2, rounds up to 8, useful) It's a bleached and burnt desert out there!  Deployment saw Nigel deploying strongly in the centre, which I had to deal with, plus two units of Auxilia, off shot left, so will be talked about later! My plan was to hold back until I could scope Nigel's plan. Nigel mid deal... Not bad cards... Actually, I don't do sitting back. On the left is my two Italian infantry (an average 6 and a superior 4) faces off vs 12 average auxilia of Nigel's. In the centre, his mass of legionarii advance, to the right of the water feature Nigel's cavalry 6 (superior, no melee expert) advances on my cavalry (average, melee expert), he will be up on impact, and then we will be even in melee. Nigel closes with the auxilia, my first holding action as...
