Mortal Gods - Battle of The Chrysoú Pómlou. Thespians vs Spartans

Polykratos looked at the ground ahead of them, several patches of scrub interspersed the rocky outcrops that dominated the area. Leandros looked over and as usual, grinned confidently and waved as he set off. He obviously was going straight up the largest hill, and would take the peltasts with him. Tychon the archer had already headed out with the archers to hold the right. Polykratos turned round to Jeff, the musician, shrugged and looked at the hoplites as they moved up in line ahead of him, supported by the meager shooting of the slingers.
"Not good terrain for a shieldwall, we are going to be busy supporting everyone!"
Jeff nodded, and played out a jaunty tune on the pipes to encourage the men on.

David came round for a game, we played on a narrow table (as that's all I've got at the moment) with our usual warbands, my Thespians, David's Spartans. David set the terrain, and we threw a straight up scrap with no unusual deployment or missions. The big hill dominated and split the field, and up this I was sending Leandros the Promachos and the peltasts. Tychon and the archers were sent right to tie up David's skirmish screen, while my main thrust was below the hill.
Turn 1 - Jeff gets left slightly behind. David had deployed his experienced hoplites behind the hill, but did not have enough space to manoeuvre round it as a phalanx. His archers, peltasts and other spears moed round the scrub to meet me.

The first charge, my phalanx in range of David's now fragmented hoplites, decide actually, they would rather receive than attack.

The next turn they try again, and roll another 1!

David's archers and peltasts deal ot the damage to my slingers, killing one and wounding another. On the main hill, both Promarchous eye each other up wearily. David's 'Daughter's of Medusa' spearwomen advance towards Tychon and the archers.

My peltasts launch a volley of javelins at David's Promachos, who takes a nasty wound, and seeing an opportunity to finish her off, Leandros tries to charge, but his sandal must have been loose, and he completely fails his charge

Good thing he has two activations a turn... Nope, he does it again!

Eventually,a charge went in. From David's Promachus! However, she bounced.

The she was pushed back by a hail of javelins from the peltasts! Good thing it wasn't a cliff...
Hmm... Scenario idea forming.

Back on the flat, David's experienced Spartan hoplites piled into my phalanx. SIX wounds! Ouch!

Shoving my three units apart and wounds were everywhere. My slingers took more fits from David's spears. My both my expended Hoplites took umbridge at the previous attack and sliced into the Spartans heavy hoplites and killed two. Above the hill, my archers started picking on their rivals.

Leandris slammed into David's Promachus finishing her off. Tychon and the archers took off one of the Daughters of Medusa.

David's Lochagos Leonidas slammed into my hoplites, causing seven wounds. That was brutal!

Leondras did NOT like that! He decided the only thing to do was to wade in.

The Thespian general showed what he was made of, smashing Leonidas to the deck (okay, a few javelins from the peltasts may have assisted him).

Even Jeff got involved, taking on a peltasts by himself. The game was now over.

By the end of the game, this was all that remained, notice Tychon is missing, he was picked off by David's archers. He really has made himself unpopular.

Another great game for a set of rules we al love. Yes, at times they may feel more skirmish than battle, but the get a result, and are always a laugh. David on two occasions during this game had me on the ropes, but thankfully Jeff boosts morale, and that was enough to keep my guys in the fight.

Tychon woke up, bandgaed from many arrow would, Plykratos looked at his amd grinned a rare grin "Morning hedgehog, sleep well?"

Blizkeig Commander IV - Hasty Assault

Mark and Stephen took my British at 1750 points, with effectively the same lists as before, but with two turns of preprogrammed artillery and a turn of smoke to assault my 1100 points of Germans who were in dugouts and gunpits. I chose to defend the four hills near my baseline. I has three HMGs, three mortars, two command teams and six infantry platoons, with two PAK36s teams. PAK36s and mortars on the back hill, two infantry and an HMG on the front. Infantry and Mortars in the left hill as a flank guard British stalled, turn 1 they failed to reach the table, so it took them at least four turns to advance. Artillery had landed on the right-hand hill, and rear hill, but had failed to kill anything, even with two 8 gun batteries of 25lbers . My ambush was sprung out the thicket. British infantry advancing developed an unfortunate habit of getting hit by mortars and HMGs. The British in turn 6 cleared the central hill with armour, but needed to get at least three infantry stand...
