28mm Napoleonics painted and played with for Sharp Practise.

28mm Foundry Miniatures French Grenadiers.
I was ordering paint, and they kind of fell into my shopping basket... Honest guv!

Camera's playing up again

Blurry advance

Charge

I'll go and paint the Caunter camo on that AEC Dorchester now...

A seriously powerful unit now, Cuirassiers with leader, musician and standard bearer
At the charge

Heavy horse flesh

Clipclop

More figures than I'll ever need, what a shame!

Some of the figures in action in last night's game.
Engineers and supply wagon on the move. Left my jump off points at home, so a Tardis sufficed!

My cuirassiers getting ready to charge the British deploying in an enclosure.

In the midst of the battle, I am swinging right with my infantry. My artillery is pounding the British, but British shooting is crippling my cuirassiers!

They did get a charge off though, mission successful, even if one horse pulled up short! Game was a great draw.

Mark gifted me some unpainted Napoleonic French. They have been painted up, and have a world-weary look about them that I really like. Added to my nascient Sharp Practise French.

Making a new squad, and the two spares will be added to purple squad, who are made up of everybody's spares and stragglers.

Trudge feels apt

They'll get there, eventually

"Let someone else do the fighting..."

You no doubt remember I was painting Napoleonic and SYW figures for Tom, the great chap who could not paint any more.
https://madlemmey.blogspot.com/2021/02/28mm-commission.html Yeah, those.

Bought some Voltigeurs, plus a free figure, from Foundry, needed an officer. Thirty seconds later, I had found a beauty and as I was already painting 10mm French, it made sense.

Fire!

They do look good.

Well, Tom a while back, gifted me several boxes full of his 28mm Napoleonic figures from various sources (as well as an extraordinary amount of research notes in several folders), just incredible. I went through the boxes, and had a look at what I could use them for in a wargaming manner. The obvious choice was Sharp Practice II as several of the Leighton Buzzard club play it in Napoleonic times and it's a fun set to play in an evening.
So, what did I find?
Many guns, good, and a pack of Polish Legion artillery crew. That one I had to dig deep into Tom's information to find their uniforms.
Many pioneers, as Tom himself was in bomb disposal, this was a unit I had to do in his honour. Tom suggested the Neapolitan 3rd Regiment, who was I to disagree.
A lot of interesting command figures, including two mounted ADCs. Several musicians and many standard bearers. That's a decent nascent force.
I also had a couple of Foundry French from previous paint orders, so they got added in  to the calculations as I bulked these up to a full unit.

The pioneers, lead by the dashing M. T. La Panthère, Legion D'Honneur.  The pioneers are made up of a mixed bag, 'volunteers' dragged out the ranks. three Neapolitans, a Pole, some French including a pontonneur that Tom had started. Communication within the unit is sometimes difficult, (Latin covers a lot of ideas initially) but they always get the job done.

Ready...

The Polish legion gun and crew. Most people don't use artillery as far as I can see, so this should be a giggle.

I also painted up some gabions and a bag to add interest

"I really would not stand there!"

Mounted ADCs

Nice animation on these

In a hurry lads?

Off they go!

Line fusiliers plus additional freebie. So, I set about unit building. A unit of infantry, an easy order.

With drummer and officer

Marching marching

Away they go

Trudge

Officer, trumpeter for the upcoming voltigeurs, a drummer and standard bearer that needs me to make a decision which type to give him., an Eagle or fanion

Tom had already started the officer, I just finished it off

The batch, a nice Amuse-bouche before my next commission.

There is also a unit of voltigeurs that will also be on the painting table soon. Need to decide which unit to go with next, thinking dragoons or hussars!

The random miniatures in my lead pile thread

Hi all, As the months go on, I am finding more random stuff that does not fit into any catagory is creeping it's way up to the surface of my lead mountain.  I decided a few years back, rather than just throw it back like one of Nobby's escaped socks, I would actually paint some of them   Mutant Zombie by CP Models Or just a mutant? Soldiers of Napoleon - Imperial Guard vs Austrians.

Mark and I met up for a game at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club. My Imperial Guard vs his Austrians, but he had taken an earlier list (1806), whereas mine was back to 1811. This time saw the first fielding of my new Young Guard. My plan was to adance the guard through the two villages, one brigade had deployed forwards in the centre to accomplish this; then swing in from the left with the Gauard Heay Cavalry brigade. Unfortunately, Mark had other ideas! He had deployed with his cavalry brigade screening forwards. Then it all really went his way. Soldiers of Napoleon has three things you can do on each card, an amount of units that can move, a rally state and special events. Sometimes, the cards fall absolutely how you want them to, sometimes, they don't. Turn one and Mark had been dealt two sets of 'At the quick' special event cards, allowing a march and then a manouver (or vice versa) for three units. Exactly the amount of cavalry units in his brigade! Combined with a ...
