Brighton et Gloriam MeG 500BC-200AD Game 2 vs Stephen & Carthaginian in Spain

Game 2, and after a lovely toastie at the Dice Saloon, I was playing another old friend, Mr Stephen Stead. Lovely bloke, using Carthaginian in Spain. Hard list in the hands of a good player. Will be a real challenge to beat.

Deployment, the table was a bald as a coot.

And somewhat shiny, which has made the photos look like we were playing on ice! Deployment was me hanging hard on the right flank, looking for anywhere to hide!

My Italians come out the forest to play, but Stephen has more and better cavalry than me, it was a case of breaking through the foot line before I was squished!

That closed up fast!
Stephen was holding back his Spanish, but his spears were tight enough to hold me while his cavalry closes.

It's close, could I get through?

Stephen moves to contacts my two 5 stand legionarii. He has stopped at 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001mm!

But my elephants are very keen to make the acquaintance of the Gallic cavalry. Unfortunately, they missed!
My legions, hit in the flank, survive, but my cavalry is severely outclassed and is suffering for it.

In fact, my nellies could not hit a barn door, and break! The infantry clashes in, again, despite being up, I'm doing worse than average! My superior Triarii loses two bases almost immediately too! Gah! My five legion is down to three bases and is about to break too.

 Finally, getting some hits in!

My cavalry and foot break, leaving one whole legion hanging in the wind, surrounded by Numidians with their rear exposed. Their fate was sealed! (0-4)
My attempts to break through to the soft underside, stall. I just cannot get the dice in, whereas Stephen is rolling well.

Sooo close! Eventually, I break the two spears and crash into the unit behind, but too little, too late.

4-15 to Mr Stead. Another top game, a very tough list. This left me on the grand total of 10 points, and nearly at the bottom of the table.
Oh hell, wooden spoon here we come!
On to Game 3 vs Jersey James's Ancient British

Soldiers of Napoleon - Imperial Guard vs Austrians.

Mark and I met up for a game at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club. My Imperial Guard vs his Austrians, but he had taken an earlier list (1806), whereas mine was back to 1811. This time saw the first fielding of my new Young Guard. My plan was to adance the guard through the two villages, one brigade had deployed forwards in the centre to accomplish this; then swing in from the left with the Gauard Heay Cavalry brigade. Unfortunately, Mark had other ideas! He had deployed with his cavalry brigade screening forwards. Then it all really went his way. Soldiers of Napoleon has three things you can do on each card, an amount of units that can move, a rally state and special events. Sometimes, the cards fall absolutely how you want them to, sometimes, they don't. Turn one and Mark had been dealt two sets of 'At the quick' special event cards, allowing a march and then a manouver (or vice versa) for three units. Exactly the amount of cavalry units in his brigade! Combined with a ...
