Imperial Skies - Battle of Fort Boyard. British vs. French.

Tonight's Imperial Skies fight. Mort requested a rematch of our steampunk airships, I was all up for that. All the amazing ships and fort are from Brigade Models, while my lovely sea mat comes from Tiny Wargames.

The British High Command, and more importantly, the public, after the French raid on the Channel resources, have demanded a retribution strike. Many targets were considered, but Navy Intelligence noted that Fort Boyard, a sea fort off La Rochelle completed in 1857, and being reactivated in the modern age, and made an ideal target.

The British strike force compromised a Benbow type I class battleship (without it's flight of planes), two Exeter type II class heavy cruisers, a Rawalpindi Colonial light cruiser and most importantly a recently commissioned Agamemnon monitor.

The French hastily scrambled a Jeanne La Pucelle heavy cruiser, a Formidable light cruiser, a Regnault class destroyer, and two Descartes class destroyers to defend the fort.

Early shots were exchanged. and the Formidable and the Rawalpindi both fell to sustained barrages from the closing flotillas. The Benbow and lower Exeter escorted the Agamemnon while the French 'crossed the T' on a lot of British ships, causing much more damage than the British had expected. The British had the edge in hull strength, but the French brought a lot of guns on their lighter ships.

The Descartes pounded the lower Exeter, while the Regnault felt the wrath of a full broadside of the Benbow.

They also tried to hammer the Agamemnon, but thankfully missed apart from some superficial damage.

The lower Exeter took a pounding, tumbling from the sky, but the Agamemnon was able to raise extra steam and pull away from the Jeanne La Percelle and the two Descartes, into range of the fort for her main guns.

Which she bombarded into surrender.

The Jeanne La Pucelle had taken heavy damage,  while the monitor was limping away after sustaining massive damage.

Great game, Mort and I had a lot of laughs. Few other chaps also have fleets or are interested, so expect more action soon!

Soldiers of Napoleon - French Imperial Guard vs Austrians - bad day to be a hussar.

Whilst down in Wiltshire for the Devizes comp, Nigel very kindly gifted me his 10mm Imperial Guard division from FOGN (Field of Glory Napoleonics), and although I had rebased the cavalry and generals (including painting some), the guard themselves were not finished. I scrabbled together a 900 Soldiers of Napoleon list (which turns out to be illegal, read the rules Will), and fielded it Vs Mark's undefeated Austrians. My army, including reserves, was twelve units and Mark could basically do that in two brigades! My list : Two brigades of two five Old Guard infantry, with two twelve pounders and full cassions. Guards Heavy cavalry brigade. Five Grenadiers a Chevel. Five Guards Dragoons. Three batteries of 8lber guns. Guards light cavalry brigade. Four Guards lancers, four Guards Chasseurs a Chevel. Three batteries of three 8lber guns. Mark had: An Avent Guard brigade with hussars, artillery, jagers and two infantry units, two dragoons with horse artillery as his cavalry brigade,An in...
