Rebased 28mm Gripping Beast Republican Romans with a few Warlord Games Characters added in for Rollcall this weekend.

Gareth also gifted me some Gallic light horse, which were utterly beautiful, but were not based. So, in preparation for getting thumped next weekend, I based them up.

MeG get's its first run out as a 28mm competition this weekend.

Yes, it is slightly out of my present scale for me, and means dusting off some old friends. Bought for me in 1999 by the amazing Mrs Lemmey from Gripping Beast, my Marian/Spartican Roman army for Warhammer Ancient Battles has been revamped and rebased. A few extra figures added, a few repairs here and there, and they are good for another 24 years!

Caesar's legio X

Army elite

My view

Legio IX Hispania, with their Eagle, and two new figures with Warlord's Volonius and Pullo from 'Rome' in the front rank (two of the new figures in the army)

"Titus Pullo, get back in line you drunkard!"

They are veterans, honest!

Two average (and allied) legio

You can tell they are average, some couldn't afford armour.

Two veteran legio

Back rank in loose so I can swap them with the front if they ever get into rough or difficult terrain.

14 figures does not really sit with me as a unit, I now prefer 60 odd 10mm! But they do look good!

As I was musing about which army to use (this, Scots, Alhomarids or Ghaznavids) an old friend and great gentleman Gareth Evans offered me some Ancient British or Gallic infantry to boost my forces. As I can have two units, it was a definite yes, as his figures are beautiful, and with his permission (thank you Gareth), I rebased the Gauls too.

The exquisite Gauls. All those sheild are hand painted!

Top view, the back rank has less figures as they are 'flexible' and can switch to lose or close formation depending on terrain.

Unit two, looking like a museum piece, so amazing

Top down

Spanish scutarii (loose infantry)

Still nice figures

Big unit, designed to charge and not much else.

Numidians, which have had a flesh repaint and new sheild transfers added (bought years ago and never had an excuse to do). They look pretty bloody tasty now!
I mean, these almost look professional

I think it's the dark grey in their hair that helps here.

Spanish mercanary slingers

Really only in the army to scout, they're not that good a shot.

Any damage they do over the weekend will be nothing short of miraculous, and would basically pay for the unit!

Two more new figures. Warlord's Crassus (mounted) and Pompey, Pompey will be playing the part of my allied general, Marcus Antonius, this weekend.

Figure the figure's white cloaks would stand out against the silver and red of the army.

Also new Warlord Caesarian officers.

Again, keeping them plain as the soldiers stand out

Marcus Licinius Crassus by GW, Caesar (unknown manufacteurer) and an escort from the Legio X as my CinC, means I can use it as either Crassus or JC. Crassus for this weekend will be Publius Licinius Crassus, who served with distinction under Caesar in Gaul between 58-56BCE.

With oh so flashy cloaks!

Vini, Vidi etc...

My camp. Do you mind, I spent ages on that!!

It is the same size as the Penguin 'Conquest of Gaul' by Julius Caesar, which will sit atop it, hence the plainness!

Warhammer Old World - Goblins vs Empire, Batlle of The Hilly Hill

"Oi, where's the rest of the army?" Stumpy Jason turned round to the musician Thumpy Jason. "We's only playing 1000 points!" "Oh right. But why are there more Empire 'ooomans than us then?" the Goblin Wolfrider capatin pondered. Mort and I met up for a game of Warhammer Old World. I chose my Goblins, with only 1000 points. This led to me taking a unit of spears, with the army standard, a unit of archers, a spear chucker and some wolf riders. A level 1 mage, my general on a giant squig and Stumpy Jason rounded out my selection. I was tooled up with magic standards and characters, so half my points were tied up in characters. Mort had two units of mounted pistolliers, a spear unit, two detachments , one of handgunners, one of halbardiers, and a small unit of knights. Two characters were embedded in his spears and one pistolliers, and a mage strode forwards with the halbardiers. My wolves and general went left, archers, spears, bolt chucker and...

Mortal Gods - Three Sided scrap - finding the treasure.

Typhon woke up, his head was banging, and there would definitely be a new scar on hi sarm... "Nice to see you can take a knock too!" Leandros looked over at the archer. Polykratos sat on a nearby boulder, helmet and shield at his feet, sword bloodied, he was smiling at his two fellow fighters. "Nice to see you two sleepy heads. By the way, we won! Spartans and Etruscans all sent packing, treasures secrured!" Dave, David and I met up for a game of Mortal Gods. Mark was meant to be joining us, but he had to call off. This is only a quick report, as we were haing too much of a laugh! Six objecties were scattered across the field, which you have to find and hold until the end of turn 5. One would go live on a roll of '6', if an action was expended on it. The others then are empty. Three sides means two corners and an edge. 450 points each. I was nearest, Dave the other corned, David the opposite edge.My standard warband took to the field, with their eyes firmly...
