Wednesday night games: MeG Dacians vs Early Post Romano-British & Legion Rebels vs Imperials

Wednesday night, while the rest of Blighty watched Footy, several of us gathered at Leighton Buzzzard Wargamers for a game. David had been challenged my daughter Imi to a game of Legion, and his Imperials faced off against Jen Urso and co. I only own a few bits of 28mm terrain that is suitable, but they got something on table.
Yes, that is an AT-ST, Imperial Guard and Vader coming down the middle at Imi's troopers, Imi was worried, hence hiding in as much terrain as she could find!

It became quickly apparent that Imi had the upper hand early here, she reduced David's squads to tatters! Here she is showing him how to play...

Mark and I set up next door, a solid line of Romano-British backed up by cavalry facing Simon's Dacians that I am painting up for him and using using weekend (their bases are finished now, honest!).

Initial moves are simple enough (but what do you expect with tribal, anything off a straight line is a yellow and REALLY expensive). Tactics, what tactics! Pick a point in the enemy line and head straight for it! Both superiors were are aimed at Mark's garrison remnants, while my Sarmatian allies get to play with the tribal troops/

Meanwhile, on table 1, Imi shows just how good her hits can be, 7 dice, 7 hits! David shows just how bad the elite Imperial Guard's saves are (7 dive, no saves!).

The Dacians close on the British battle line, to the right a unit of non-falx warrior types takes on the might of the Segeuntienties. The Sarmatians are in danger of being enveloped, but my charges are all compulsory, so free break off cards instead!

It doesn't help when you get dealt cards like this, a pure hand of juandiced zebras! I'm only going forwards this turn then...

So many charges I actually ran out of charge markers!! Never had that before. Mark had some effect with his shooting on the way, one of my superiors was slowed by two in a central command, so no way of paying those off, but these were my worst losses of the night. My lancers caught two British units on the left, while my CinC's three units on the right smashed into the Brexitiers line.

Imperials pulling back from their right hand position as Imi takes down trooper after trooper. Vader is also taking damage!

Back to the MeG, Charge combat, Mark elected to start at the furthest part of his line from my Legandary general, but the shatters rolled up the line to his nibs, who was now on +6 at impact (+2 Dev charge, +2 Legendary General, +1 superior nobles, +2 shatter), vs a short spear armed garrison trooper. YELLOW & RED vs BLACK, muhahahahahahaaaaaa... oh..
DRAT!
The worst possible result, a wound, and no shatter to pass on to the rest of the line!

What's missing from this picture? About 450 points of AT-ST, Imperial Guards and Vader! Imi comprehensively beat David, and only lost one unit on the way. Great game and they both loved it, and already other club members are asking her for games.

After the charge, my lancers broke off to charge again in the next turn (and also to remove the threat of a flank charge from Mark). My charge saw me crash through a unit of Pedts (2-0) without loss. To their right, normal warriors and falx armed loonies slice and dice post Roman Cavalry.

In the centre, much aided by superior, melee expert and Legendary General Decebalus (honestly, to Romanians's he is a legend). Three units died in a turn and the yellow KaBz were pretty brutal too (8-0)

On the left, two more Roman units lie isolated as their general dies, and the Sarmatians swarm, looking for flanks. Behind the Romano-British centre a lone reserve looks on worried about the impact crater they are about to become from the break through that is about to happen!

At this point Mark conceeded as he could see the result (and we both got home to see the result). Great to play Mark again after a year, and with a bit more practise, this army is going to cause no end of problems to his enemies (it was it's first time on table). Onwards to ArMEGgedon!

Soldiers of Napoleon - Imperial Guard vs Austrians.

Mark and I met up for a game at Leighton Buzzard Wargames Club. My Imperial Guard vs his Austrians, but he had taken an earlier list (1806), whereas mine was back to 1811. This time saw the first fielding of my new Young Guard. My plan was to adance the guard through the two villages, one brigade had deployed forwards in the centre to accomplish this; then swing in from the left with the Gauard Heay Cavalry brigade. Unfortunately, Mark had other ideas! He had deployed with his cavalry brigade screening forwards. Then it all really went his way. Soldiers of Napoleon has three things you can do on each card, an amount of units that can move, a rally state and special events. Sometimes, the cards fall absolutely how you want them to, sometimes, they don't. Turn one and Mark had been dealt two sets of 'At the quick' special event cards, allowing a march and then a manouver (or vice versa) for three units. Exactly the amount of cavalry units in his brigade! Combined with a ...
