Si very kindly asked me to do him two 10mm armies during lockdown. Firstly is a Roman 10mm army from the Trajanic conquest of Dacia.
The two best sources for this are Trajan's cloumn in Rome (or in the V&A Museum, if you know where to look) and late Terry Jones's superlative series and book, 'Barbarians'.
Final set of units for the army, two units of archers.
Now onto the Dacians...
Nearly a month later, and now the next batch of beautiful Pendraken Romans are done, these last few weeks, but kitchen/bathroom/utility room has seriously slowed things down now.
1st Cavalry - previously seen in dismounted form. The wonderful shields are by the Baggage Train.
2nd Cavalry
Artillery
Generals
ATTACK BADGER!!!
The whole batch
Roman Auxilia, shields again by The Baggage Train
1st Auxilia
New focal length is not right yet
Side view
Playing with the new macro lens, still not got the range sorted yet.
2nd Auxilia
A unit of dismounted cavalry made up with spare auxilia
Wedge!
Top view to show troops in loose formation.
4th Legion artillery
Si's list has four legions, 2 superiors, 2 average, some with artillery. All the legions are 'flexible' meaning they can switch between close and loose order.
A few more Romans done (few, meaning 113)
Legio V
Inspired by Messers Goscinny et Uderzo, veterans of Alesia and now the garrision charged with holding back the indomnible Gauls until called up by Trajan.
Legio VI
Close formation
Switched to loose
Side view
Legio IV artillery attachment
Six legions
Auxilia next...
Si ordered from Pendraken's Imperial Roman range, and I had shield transfers made to fit by The Baggage Train.
Legio I
Deployed in close
Flank view
.
With their loose order troops at the front to show loose deployment (useful for clearing difficult ground).
Legio II, more veterans
Legate out front.
Rear view - what we mostly see!
Legio III - average and in red, coz red is cool!
These look great, I really enjoyed these.
Will need to add artillery to these.
Legio IV (I need to add artillery to these chaps)
The world's first professional killing machine.
Oops, better mark that base soon!
Four legions deployed ready for action.
Top down view.
- just realised it's about 107.7089123 per man to a real legion here!
