The random thoughts of Chairman Meow 2019.

Another year of toy soldiers has dawned, and slightly belated, it is time for some introspective navel/naval gazing about my hobby and what I plan to do with it this year.

Erm....

No clue!
Honestly.

So, what do I know:
Rules I'm loving and playing most:

Meg:
I have about MeG tournaments over the year, kicking off at Brighton at the end of this month. Several I know exactly what armies I am using, others I have no clue.
Brighton, Classical(Jan): Mid Republican Romans, solid, fun list, could go well.
Stockport, Medieval (Feb): Medieval - Early Scots or Tudors, both hopeless, one ready, other needs 4 units buying and painting...
Derby, Classical Open(March): Probably Sassanids or Imperial Romans, both do me well.
Rollcall, Eastern theme(April): Samurai. My go to army, and an eastern pool, looking forward to this one.
Campaign, Themed teams (May
): I'm in the retreat of empire pool, most likely Sassanids, or Picts, nope, Sassanids!
Skullrollers(June): Open comp, will probably use Samurai again.
Other comps TBC
Then...
Rollcall, Biblical (Nov): Mitanni, 3 units left to finish, and a camp. Been loving this army vs Andy & Mark
Will I be painting any more, not a clue. Nothing jumps out at the moment. Few units here and there, but no army plans at the moment.
Well, maybe Sassanids or Dacians or Greeks...

Sabresquadron: Loving these rules now, never have a bad game. Painting: just about to finish my 1980s Brits, next up is Korean War North Koreans as a laugh. Might have to buy a suitable opponent for them.

Other rules that are brimming under.

Frostgrave: First game postponed, watch this space. Will add more monsters soon, where did I put that wraith!

Cruel Seas, have enough to go, might need an MTG (or two), and some more E boats...

Poseidon's Warriors: Need more games, and maybe a Syracusian fleet.

Possible games:
Gangs of Rome: Love my first game, but definitely need terrain.

Street Wars: NY: Need terrain and to play.
Both 28mm, so storage of terrain might be an issue.

Imperial Skies: Need more games. Two ships to assemble and paint.

Navel Thunder: more games needed too,  definitely need more ships.

Games on the horizon:
Renatio et Gloriam, love them, must finish my Polish infantry.

  1. Have you tried To the Strongest. It's a set of Ancients rules. Nice and easy to play. There is a comp at Cranfield. Pop over and have a look if you get time. Always a pleasure to see you my friend. Don't forget to keep the Black dog in its cage

Warhammer Old World - Goblins vs Empire, Batlle of The Hilly Hill

"Oi, where's the rest of the army?" Stumpy Jason turned round to the musician Thumpy Jason. "We's only playing 1000 points!" "Oh right. But why are there more Empire 'ooomans than us then?" the Goblin Wolfrider capatin pondered. Mort and I met up for a game of Warhammer Old World. I chose my Goblins, with only 1000 points. This led to me taking a unit of spears, with the army standard, a unit of archers, a spear chucker and some wolf riders. A level 1 mage, my general on a giant squig and Stumpy Jason rounded out my selection. I was tooled up with magic standards and characters, so half my points were tied up in characters. Mort had two units of mounted pistolliers, a spear unit, two detachments , one of handgunners, one of halbardiers, and a small unit of knights. Two characters were embedded in his spears and one pistolliers, and a mage strode forwards with the halbardiers. My wolves and general went left, archers, spears, bolt chucker and...

Mortal Gods - Three Sided scrap - finding the treasure.

Typhon woke up, his head was banging, and there would definitely be a new scar on hi sarm... "Nice to see you can take a knock too!" Leandros looked over at the archer. Polykratos sat on a nearby boulder, helmet and shield at his feet, sword bloodied, he was smiling at his two fellow fighters. "Nice to see you two sleepy heads. By the way, we won! Spartans and Etruscans all sent packing, treasures secrured!" Dave, David and I met up for a game of Mortal Gods. Mark was meant to be joining us, but he had to call off. This is only a quick report, as we were haing too much of a laugh! Six objecties were scattered across the field, which you have to find and hold until the end of turn 5. One would go live on a roll of '6', if an action was expended on it. The others then are empty. Three sides means two corners and an edge. 450 points each. I was nearest, Dave the other corned, David the opposite edge.My standard warband took to the field, with their eyes firmly...
