Blizkeig Commander IV - Hasty Assault

Mark and Stephen took my British at 1750 points, with effectively the same lists as before, but with two turns of preprogrammed artillery and a turn of smoke to assault my 1100 points of Germans who were in dugouts and gunpits. I chose to defend the four hills near my baseline. I has three HMGs, three mortars, two command teams and six infantry platoons, with two PAK36s teams. PAK36s and mortars on the back hill, two infantry and an HMG on the front. Infantry and Mortars in the left hill as a flank guard British stalled, turn 1 they failed to reach the table, so it took them at least four turns to advance. Artillery had landed on the right-hand hill, and rear hill, but had failed to kill anything, even with two 8 gun batteries of 25lbers . My ambush was sprung out the thicket. British infantry advancing developed an unfortunate habit of getting hit by mortars and HMGs. The British in turn 6 cleared the central hill with armour, but needed to get at least three infantry stand...

Blitzkrieg Commander IV - Battle at The Oasis

*Waits for band jokes* Mark & Dave wanted another go at BKC before they fly solo the week after next, so sides were swapped, extra CO stands added, and forces adjusted to new points. Terrain came out the box, and the Brits rolled onto table. While I swung the 139th Borcesters up the left of middle, supported by the three Crusaders. My (yet to be named) CO brought on two platoons of the Guards in Uniersal Carriers, a Humber A/C, and a truck with the HMG and mkII 3" Mortar platoon stands on my left, who rolled a '2' headed to the ruined village at the oasis as quickly as possible. Where is rest of the armour you ask? Those oh-so-useful Mk13s? Well, they blundered their deployment roll! Seriously! Three games I've used them, each time they do something woefull! Thankfully, they rolled a 5 and were only delayed a turn. The Commander of the 4th & 9th Hussars is currently undergoing a ' HARD STARE '  Thankfully, the 2lber Portees and the Crusaders ma...

Blitzkreig Commander IV - a teaching game.

What is it they say, "See one, do one, teach one!" Mark and Dave asked me to take them through Blizkreig Commander, so I agreed to put out my Western Desert stuff. Forces basically the same, except the Germans had two level 9 commanders and an extra Pak36 for their 1405 points. Mark & Dave took the Brits. The table (you will get bored of this terrain soon, I swear). I put my armour out right, infantry assets left. The idea was to take on the British armour under Dave head-on, while the infantry and anti-tank guns were to delay Mark's advance. A turn later, and a much better shot. Mark swung out to my left, while Dave came down the gap. Six A13s vs 2 Panzer IVDs and IIIHs. Mark and Dave start to hammer my armour, both IVDs were silenced quickly, but I started to get involved with the A13s taking out one. My motorbikes swung right into the centre and regretted it, as they were targeted by everything! They didn't last long! PaK36s deploy out left with ...

Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington

Holiday this year saw the whole Lemmey family off for a trip to York, and a quick visit to the Yorkshire Aircraft Museum at Elvington So, continuing my few and far between series of Museum write ups... Elvinton was a WW2 airbase, either RAF of Free French, but it was a Bomber Command base, and Handley-Paige Halifaxes were based here, so different to the Fighter Command bases visited previously. First thing that greats you upon entry is a 1:1 scale model of a Hurricane (which I always hae a soft-spot for, as my Grandpa flew in them), but this one is done up as a Mk2C night fighter , with four cannons. A really nice touch. Saracen armoured car . 1:1 model Spitfire , because you just have to. Tallboy bomb , without warhead, in it's transportation cradle. A big beast. Talking of Tallboys, this one stands inside the hanger (daughters for scale) alongside a WE. 177 nuclear freefall bomb , training round, but daunting to say the least. WW1 mock up, a vintage rebuild by engineering appr...
